Assistant Controller

Job Description Our client, an established investment management firm in New York City, is seeking a strong Assistant Controller to join its corporate accounting and financial reporting team. \n \n This is a highly visible role offering significantly more exposure than a traditional corporate accounting position. The individual will work directly with the Controller and CFO , partner with investment professionals and senior leadership, and gain exposure across SEC reporting, technical accounting, investment valuations, financial reporting, controls, and operational accounting. \n The firm offers a strong quality of life, a collaborative small-team environment, limited travel, and excellent long-term growth potential, including the opportunity to progress into broader controllership responsibilities. \n \n Responsibilities \n \n Assist with the quarterly and annual financial close and SEC reporting process, including preparation and review of 10-Q and 10-K filings \n Review accounting workpapers, journal entries, reconciliations, supporting schedules, and reporting packages \n Perform and review technical accounting research , accounting position papers, and analysis of new GAAP and regulatory requirements \n Coordinate with third-party fund administrators and other service providers to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting \n Assist with financial statement preparation and related disclosures \n Partner with the investment team during the quarterly investment valuation process and evaluate the financial statement impact of investment valuations \n Work closely with external auditors and tax professionals throughout annual audits and tax reporting processes \n Manage and support SOX compliance , including coordination with internal and external auditors and oversight of testing and documentation \n Review cash flow analysis, liquidity planning, and other treasury-related activity \n Assist with quarterly management reporting, Board materials, presentations, and other senior-management reporting \n Review credit facility and other financing-related reporting \n Supervise and review the work of junior accounting professionals and third-party providers \n Participate in process improvement initiatives and take on increasing responsibility as the team continues to grow \n \n \n Qualifications \n \n Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field \n CPA required \n Approximately 6–10 years of relevant accounting experience \n Strong SEC reporting experience, including 10-Q and 10-K reporting, is required \n Public accounting experience is strongly preferred but not required \n Experience within asset management, private equity, investment companies, financial services, or a BDC environment is preferred but not required \n Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements \n Experience with technical accounting research and financial statement preparation \n Prior exposure to SOX controls and external audit coordination \n Ability to review the work of junior professionals and manage third-party service providers \n Advanced Microsoft Excel skills \n Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills \n Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced reporting environment \n Proactive, hands-on mentality with an interest in taking on additional responsibility \n \n \n Why Consider This Opportunity? \n This role offers high-level exposure.
