Child Life Assistant

Under the direction of the Child Life Coordinator, this position provides therapeutic/diversion activities for individuals and groups of pediatric patients (infants through adolescents) and their families. Provides comprehensive care based on the principles of growth and development across the lifespan of patients served. The position demonstrates the professional skills and behaviors to promote comprehensive, cost-effective, and meaningful healthcare for consumers in a diverse healthcare environment.

• Requires a high school diploma or GED.
• Prefer an associate degree with several college Child Development courses.

• Must have a minimum of six (6) months to one (1) year of Child Life experience or experience directly with children.
• Prefer one to two (1-2) years of work experience directly with hospitalized children, including experience working with family members, the public, and volunteers.

• A BLS card is obtained through an approved American Heart Association (AHA) training center upon hire.
• Prefer CDA certification.

• Must possess the ability to work with culturally diverse patients and families.
• Must possess good verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills, including knowledge of basic grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
• Requires the ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English.
• Bilingual Skills desired.
• Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, and the ability to meet designated deadlines are required.
• Must have basic computer knowledge.
