Job Description

This direct placement role offers a comprehensive, top-to-bottom mechanic position where you diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and related components on trucks and trailers. You will work with a variety of systems and perform both mechanical and electrical diagnostics to ensure equipment operates safely and reliably.

Pay: 27-42/hr Based on experience

Shift: 2pm-10:30pm (will move to 4x10s once shift is more stable)

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, including performing detailed inspections, troubleshooting issues, and completing necessary mechanical repairs.

• Work on transmissions, brakes, chassis, and related mechanical systems to ensure safe and efficient vehicle operation.

• Perform electrical diagnostics and repairs on diesel trucks and trailers, including wiring, lighting, and electronic control systems.

• Use diagnostic tools and software to identify faults, interpret error codes, and determine appropriate repair solutions.

• Inspect, maintain, and repair MX and Paccar engine platforms and related components as needed.

• Conduct fabrication work as required, including basic metalwork and component fitting to support repairs and modifications.

• Perform comprehensive preventive maintenance and safety checks on vehicles to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.

• Document all work performed, including diagnostics, repairs, parts used, and test results, in a clear and accurate manner.

• Collaborate with other technicians on shift to prioritize work, share technical knowledge, and maintain an organized workflow.

• Follow all shop safety procedures, maintain a clean and orderly work area, and properly use tools and equipment.

Essential Skills

• At least 3 years of hands-on experience working on diesel engines.

• At least 3 years of experience performing electrical work on diesel trucks and trailers.

• Strong diagnostic skills for engines, electrical systems, and related vehicle components.

• Proficiency in mechanical repair of transmissions, brakes, chassis, and associated systems.

• Ability to work with MX and Paccar engine platforms or similar heavy-duty diesel systems.

• Eligibility to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic information.

• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail when diagnosing complex issues.

• Capability to work independently and as part of a small technical team.

• Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining high-quality workmanship.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience using diagnostic tools and software for diesel engines and electrical systems.

• Experience in fabrication, including basic welding, cutting, or component modification.

• Familiarity with a wide range of diesel truck and trailer configurations.

• Ability to manage multiple repair tasks and adapt to changing priorities in a busy shop environment.

• Strong communication skills to clearly describe issues, repairs, and recommendations.

Work Environment

This role is based in a non-union shop working primarily on second shift alongside approximately three other technicians. You will work in a hands-on, shop-floor environment using standard mechanic tools, diagnostic equipment, and fabrication tools to service diesel trucks and trailers. The setting involves typical shop conditions, including working around heavy equipment, tools, and moving vehicles, with an expectation to follow all safety procedures and maintain appropriate work attire suitable for a diesel repair facility.

This is a Permanent position based out of South Saint Paul, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $55000.00 - $93000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
