Laboratory Training and Competency Coordinator - Banner Desert (Evening Shift)

POSITION SUMMARY This position is responsible for a high level of technical knowledge and application of that knowledge to department testing, clinical relevance, and complex problem‑solving skills. It serves as a department resource and assists with compliance with all pertinent laboratory accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA ’88, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA). All functions are performed according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards. CORE FUNCTIONS Performs all duties of MLT/MLS at a high level of competency, provides operational leadership and workflow oversight to the section/shift, integrates comprehensive technical knowledge and clinical relevance into daily activity, solves complex technical, computer, interdepartmental and quality issues, and under direction implements system technical initiatives. Focuses on quality by reviewing records and assuring performance of all quality control and assurance procedures, keeps quality control and instrumentation maintenance records, assists in implementing new QC/QA policies, participates in continuous quality improvement programs, and actively prepares for on‑site accreditation. Monitors and recognizes opportunities for improvement, participates in improving the financial performance of the department and the SQL/LSA system, monitors inventory, and assists with cost analysis models. Assists with basic personnel oversight including participation in selection, training, development, coaching, orientation, competency assessment, and ensures staff completion of competency program requirements. Serves as a resource communication liaison for on‑site and system issues, provides access to other system resources, works closely with on‑site management, interacts with co‑workers with emphasis on teamwork and customer service, and demonstrates preceptor and coaching skills. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Technical Coordinator I: Associate degree in medical laboratory technology, medical laboratory science, or clinical laboratory science with four (4) years of laboratory training or experience in non‑waived testing, or Bachelor’s degree in chemical or biological science with two (2) years of laboratory training or experience. Foreign‑educated candidates must provide a credential evaluation from IERF or other nationally recognized agency. Technical Coordinator II: Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science/medical technology or Bachelor’s degree in chemical or biological science with certification (MLS or categorical). Requires two (2) years’ experience in non‑waived testing. Foreign‑educated candidates must provide a credential evaluation from IERF or other nationally recognized agency.
