Maintenance Mechanic

Location: Bay Regional Juvenile Detention Center, 450 E 11th Street Panama City, FL 32401 Starting Salary: $1,424.61 Bi-Weekly

This is work involving the skills of two or more maintenance or craft occupations to keep machines, mechanical equipment, or the structure of an establishment in repair.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Inspects and tests machinery and equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
• Dismantles and reassembles defective machines and equipment.
• Installs new or repaired parts.
• Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
• Installs and/or repairs wiring and electrical and electronic components.
• Assembles, installs, and/or repairs pipe systems and hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
• Installs machinery and equipment.
• Sets up and operates machine tools to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools.
• Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
• Records repairs made and costs.
• Estimates costs of repairs.
• Responds to repairs for emergency firefighting equipment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Ability to install equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications.
• Ability to repair machines or systems using the needed tools.
• Knowledge of performing routine maintenance and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
• Ability to troubleshoot by determining what is causing an operating error and deciding what to do about it.
• Knowledge of determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
• Knowledge of conducting tests to determine whether equipment, software, or procedures are operating as expected.
• Ability to inspect and evaluate the quality of products.
• Knowledge of controlling operations of equipment or systems.
• Knowledge of watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
• Ability to understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
• Knowledge of materials, methods, and the appropriate tools to construct objects, structures, and buildings.
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, benefits, repairs, and maintenances.
• Knowledge of equipment, tools, mechanical devices, and their uses to produce motion, light, power, technology, and other applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Have experience operating lawn mowing equipment, power tools and plumbing equipment.
• Be agreeable to working a flex schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Extended hours and on-call may also be required.
• Additional preference will be given to candidates with two years of experience in the maintenance and repair of buildings, plumbing or electrical or mechanical equipment; or Vocational/technical training in mechanical repair or one of the building trades can substitute at the rate of 720 classroom hours for a maximum of one year of the required experience.
