Assists RNs and Care Providers with procedures, medication administration, phlebotomy, and limited laboratory procedures. Assesses patients physical and psychological condition on an ongoing basis throughout the continuum of care. Documents patients medical status throughout the patients course of treatment. The Correctional Care nursing staff provides clinical care at either Downtown Detention Center or the Denver County Jail. These environments of care have a higher level of clinical acuity and environmental hazard than inpatient and ambulatory nursing settings based on the nature of the facility. The detention centers employ a high level of security, which impacts daily working conditions, including both personal and institutional safety and clinical operations. Environmental awareness, critical thinking, and decisive, decision-making skills are required in the correctional care setting. Essential Functions :/pulliUnder the direction of the RN, implements care based on prioritized patient needs. Implements nursing interventions based on plan of care, priority of patients needs and desired outcome, guidelines/standards of care, and agency policies and procedures (10%)/liliIn coordination with the RN, implements care based on prioritized patient needs (10%)/liliMaintain a broad and comprehensive nursing scope of practice that includes infant, pediatric, and Adult clinical care (10%)/liliMaintain a broad and comprehensive nursing scope of practice that includes preventive care, emergent care/crisis response, triage skills, general acute care skills, and behavioral health skills (10%)/liliObtains vital signs and differentiates normal from abnormal findings. Reports abnormal values or conditions to the RN or provider. (EX. Abnormal VS, bleeding, safety concerns, family issues.) (10%)/liliProvides safe delivery of medications (5%)/liliProvides for safe collection and processing of laboratory specimens, blood samples, IV access as ordered by the care provider. (5%)/liliPerforms specialized tasks as directed by the RN or care provider, i.e., EKGs, Foley Insertion, Spirometry, Peak flow etc. (5%)/liliDocument Daily Goals/ Plan of Care making sure information is properly transcribed and complete. (5%)/liliAdheres to the hospitals principles and practices of Informing Clinical Practice, Interconnecting Stakeholders, Improving Population Health, and Personalizing Care. (5%)/liliCollects clinical data to contribute to the Plan of Care in conjunction with the RN. (5%)/liliPerforms chart audits to promote quality improvement. (5%)/liliReports response of patient/family or changing condition to the RN and helps to appropriately update the plan of care.
