Partners for Peace is hiring a Shelter Program Coordinator to join our team! This position oversees day-to-day operations for our emergency shelter and provides direct support, advocacy, and housing navigation support to domestic violence survivors. The Shelter Program Coordinator supervises several staff members, interns, and volunteers and is responsible for effective programming and quality assurance within the Shelter Services Program. Job Title: Shelter Program Coordinator Classification: Non-Exempt (Hourly) Work Hours: 32‑hour work week between the hours of 8am‑4:30pm (eight‑hour days Monday‑Thursday or Tuesday‑Friday, as assigned) and scheduled on‑call overnight and weekend work related to the 24‑hour helpline Starting Pay Range: Level 2 – $45,880–49,820 annually (depending on experience) Partners for Peace is the domestic violence resource center for Penobscot and Piscataquis counties. We partner with our community to end domestic violence, promote healthy relationships, and support survivors seeking safety, justice, and healing. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide leadership for Partners for Peace shelter services including shelter programming, housing navigation, and regular assessment and evaluation of effectiveness. Provide safety planning, emotional support, crisis intervention, advocacy, information, and referral to victims and survivors of domestic violence, especially as it relates to sheltering and housing, through our 24‑hour helpline and at shelter, the organization’s Bangor Resource Center, and various community settings. Supervise and support staff and volunteers within the Shelter Program; including hiring, timecard approval, performance management, and other relevant human resources matters. Oversee and support the day‑to‑day upkeep of the shelter building. With the Director of Housing and Shelter Services, provide for quality assurance in accordance with state and federal regulations and funding requirements, including data collection, documentation, and reporting. With the Director of Housing and Shelter Services, ensure timely and accurate data entry and completion; generate reports in accordance with grant requirements; and use the data to inform programmatic and organizational goals. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Specific to this Position Minimum high school diploma or GED with additional education, training, or experience in human services or related field required. Experience working with victims and survivors of domestic violence and/or in housing and shelter services preferred. Experience supervising staff, volunteers, and/or interns preferred. Completion of the 45‑60 hours of the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence approved basic advocacy training. Ability to provide consistent high‑quality support and advocacy to survivors, including scheduled on‑call coverage for our 24‑hour helpline, including some overnights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to relate to survivors with empathy and patience and to provide compassionate, non‑judgmental, survivor‑centered advocacy, support, and crisis response. Understanding of the impacts of trauma and the dynamics of domestic abuse and importance of collaborating across systems to achieve better outcomes for survivors or willingness to learn. Ability to prioritize timely and responsive direct support of survivors while managing other essential tasks and work to support program goals and projects. Requirements for all PFP Staff Must pass required background checks, including state Department of Health & Human Services (DHHS) Abuse and Neglect, Bureau of Motor Vehicle Driver’s Record, state and federal sex offender registries, and a fingerprint‑based search of state and federal records. Computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office programs and database entry. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work and communicate effectively with co‑workers, community members, and professionals. Ability to thrive while working independently and as part of a team. Ability to report and/or compile statistics and units of service accurately and timely. Ability to understand the requirements of funding for one’s position and the organization to participate in meeting those requirements. Physical Requirements, Schedule and Working Conditions Must be able to work in a fast‑paced, trauma‑informed, survivor‑centered workplace, primarily on site in a confidential emergency shelter with adults, children, and pets affected by domestic abuse. Must have reliable transportation and be available for some local travel (valid driver’s license and proof of insurance required). Must be willing and able to work some flexible hours, including on‑call overnight, weekend, and holiday work related to the 24‑hour helpline. Must be able to walk up and down stairs in a multi‑story building, occasionally sit for long periods of time, work on a computer, and move or lift materials up to 30 pounds.
