Histology Technician

Histology Technician We are seeking a Histology Technician to provide research support administration services for a government customer stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The role involves performing immunohistochemical techniques, routine molecular pathology services, and experimental procedures including nucleic acid assays and protein extraction/purification from formalin‑fixed, paraffin‑embedded samples. The technician will prepare laboratory supplies and equipment orders, and ensure laboratory operations are conducted efficiently according to SOPs. Responsibilities Perform immunohistochemical techniques suitable for microscopic analysis, examination, and photography. Assist in developing technical procedures to meet specialized protocol requirements, in consultation with investigators/pathologists, focusing on tissue handling, collection, and preservation for histological, immunohistochemical, and immunofluorescence analysis. Provide training to personnel on methods, procedures, and equipment operation. Conduct section orientation for all technicians in the section. Scan and electronically store slides processed by the IHC/IFA/ICC section. Execute routine and special histological procedures, including specimen trimming, processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining. Perform molecular pathology procedures, including nucleic acid assays and protein extraction and purification from formalin‑fixed, paraffin‑embedded samples. Prepare buffers and solutions using appropriate calculations, pH meters, weigh scales, and related equipment. Operate specialized equipment such as plate readers, autostainers, thermocyclers, microscopes (bright field, fluorescent, confocal, slide scanner). Conduct yearly inventory and update chemical inventories in accordance with SOPs. Dispose of hazardous waste in compliance with SOPs. Maintain updated Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for each chemical in hard copy and electronic formats. Inventory and submit purchase requests for supplies, reagents, and consumables. Obtain quotes and submit purchase requests through automated MS SharePoint or equivalent system. Assist with preparing scientific presentations and peer‑review publications, providing graphical image analysis and technical descriptions for manuscripts. Author and update SOPs for the molecular pathology section. Provide weekly updates and reports on work completed, including procedure type, completion status, pass/fail status, sample count, turnaround time, and consumables used. Serve as designated Team Lead for Laboratory Support. Coordinate contract employee leaves to ensure mission needs are met. Assign work schedules to satisfy current priorities and needs, as discussed with the Pathology Chief. Ensure contract employees comply with all training requirements and provide copies of training certificates to the COR. Other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications HistoTechnician certification (ASCP, American Society of Clinical Pathology). U.S. citizenship. Ability to pass a favorable adjudicated National Agency Check with Inquiries.
