Desktop Support Engineer

Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Desktop Support Engineer to join a growing technology team in Austin, TX. This individual will serve as the primary point of contact for end-user support, providing hands-on support for desktop systems, laptops, peripherals, conference room technologies, and remote employees.

The ideal candidate will bring several years of advanced desktop support experience and be comfortable troubleshooting complex issues across Windows, Mac, and Linux environments. This individual will play a key role in improving IT operations, building documentation, standardizing processes, and helping the organization transition from startup-style support practices to more mature enterprise IT operations.

In addition to daily end-user support, this person will partner closely with engineering teams to troubleshoot development environments, support specialized tools, and improve technical workflows.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary IT support resource for employees in the Austin office

• Provide support for Windows, macOS, and Linux workstations and laptops

• Troubleshoot hardware, operating system, software, and application-related issues

• Support conference room technology, printers, peripherals, docking stations, and AV equipment

• Provide remote support to offsite employees

• Perform laptop provisioning, imaging, deployment, and onboarding for new hires

• Configure and support MFA, account access, Active Directory, and collaboration tools

• Troubleshoot networking issues including Wi-Fi, VPN connectivity, DNS, DHCP, and TCP/IP-related problems

• Support Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

• Partner with engineering teams to support development environments, workflows, and technical toolsets

• Create and maintain documentation, knowledge base articles, and standard operating procedures

• Drive process improvements and help establish scalable IT support standards

• Escalate issues to global IT teams and third-party vendors as needed

• Monitor endpoint health and support security compliance initiatives

Skills and Requirements

• 3-6+ years of desktop support, systems support, or end-user computing experience

• Experience supporting Windows, macOS, and Linux environments

• Strong hardware troubleshooting experience across laptops, desktops, printers, docking stations, and peripherals

• Experience supporting Microsoft 365 applications

• Knowledge of networking fundamentals including:

TCP/IP

DNS

DHCP

VPN troubleshooting

Wireless networking

• Experience with Active Directory user administration and access management

• Strong customer service and communication skills

• Ability to troubleshoot and resolve escalated support issues independently

• Experience creating technical documentation and standardized support processes - Experience supporting engineering or software development teams

• Experience with AWS, Oracle Cloud, or other cloud platforms

• Experience with SCCM, Intune, or deployment/imaging solutions

• Exposure to automation tools such as Ansible or Puppet

• Experience supporting source control/version control systems (Git, GitLab, GitHub, etc.)

• Network administration experience involving switches, firewalls, or routers

• Microsoft certifications

• Experience working within rapidly growing startups or scaling organizations

• Experience with Freshdesk, Halo, or similar ticketing systems
