General Maintainer - 1st Shift

General Maintainer Position Type: Maintenance/Custodial/Custodian Date Posted: 5/8/2026 Location: East Hartford Public Schools Date Available: 07/01/2026 Salary: $27.36 - $33.94 per hour (Per Contract) Internal candidates may apply for this position and must either complete an online application or submit a detailed letter of interest outlining qualifications to Human Resources. Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Must have and maintain a CT Driver's License and clean driving record. Work history in one or more of the construction or building maintenance trades. Experience operating equipment and conducting snow removal with heavy‑duty (non‑CDL) trucks and accessories. Performance Responsibilities Repairs building systems and components and maintains building maintenance equipment. Operates snowplowing and sanding equipment, as well as other landscape construction equipment safely and efficiently. Operates commercial landscaping equipment to mow, maintain, and upkeep school grounds. Prepares and maintains school sports fields including baseball, softball, soccer, and football fields. Works independently with minimal supervision to complete assigned tasks expediently with a high degree of quality and workmanship. Receives after‑hours calls when building issues arise and responds as directed; updates ADFI, building occupants, and management staff regarding status of building issues. Performs repairs and minor renovations to both interior and exterior of buildings. Plans and executes reconfigurations and furniture moves. Utilizes technology devices and platforms to manage work orders and inspections. Ensures facilities are properly secured and free of public safety hazards. Participates in building safety discussions and training drills. Assists other departmental staff to solve problems and meet team goals. Performs similar or related work as required, directed, or as the situation dictates. Performs a variety of daily and routine maintenance, repair, and construction activities in the East Hartford Public Schools’ building portfolio, including carpentry, flooring, lock repairs, landscaping and construction, sheetrock repair, painting, hardware repair/replacement, material handling, and ceiling grid modifications. Terms of Employment Twelve‑month position. Salary and work year per contract with Local 1933. Physical Demands Very Heavy. Working Conditions Both inside and outside. Extremes of cold and heat, temperature changes, wet and humid conditions, noise and vibration, vapors, fumes, odor, dust, limited ventilation, toxic substances.
