Materials Engineer

Serving two primary markets – passenger vehicle and commercial truck – Dana provides the world's original-equipment manufacturers and the aftermarket with local product and service support through a network of nearly 100 engineering, manufacturing, and distribution facilities.Job PurposeThis position will be responsible to provide materials engineering support for product design, specifications and program launch of traditional and electric driveline products, motors and inverter systems. Additionally, this position includes support of materials testing, failure analysis, report writing, and report review. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesPerform product design and manufacturing technical design reviews for new program launches.Review and evaluate engineering change requests.Perform supplier and internal manufacturing process technical reviews for new product and process/supplier changes.Provide materials and failure analysis support for product launches, production and supplier related concernsProvide materials engineering support for requests from engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, and customers.Create and maintain materials and process specifications.Lead and support material and process related projects.Responsible for completing other engineering projects as assigned.Apply current and new material and process related technology as it relates to Dana products.Provide support in material testing and failure analysis of components submitted to the Metallurgical Laboratory including interpreting test results, report writing, and effectively communicate conclusions with cross-functional teams.May include performing some sample preparation and metallographic examination, hardness testing, chemical analysis, photo documentation, non-destructive evaluation, as well as mechanical and performance testing.Coordinate outsourced testing as needed.Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.Education and QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or Welding Engineering. 2+ years experience in materials engineering and manufacturing.Experience in failure analysis, including some use of a scanning electron microscope preferred.Knowledge of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, elastomers, adhesives, welding, paints, corrosion, and lubricants preferred.Knowledge of hardness testing, tension and compression testing, fatigue testing, corrosion testing, chemical analysis, and microscopic evaluation techniques.Electric vehicle materials and product experience a plusWillingness to learn and adapt to new process and product knowledge.Good mechanical aptitude and the ability to read design prints.Ability to work independently and in a team environment.Strong interpersonal skills to professionally interface with people from all levels of the organization, both inside and outside Dana.Good written, verbal communication and presentation skills.Strong time management and organizational skills, and ability to meet urgent deadlines.Demonstrated computer proficiency using Windows operating system, Microsoft Office products, and other software applicationsAble to travel occasionally.Able to work occasional overtime during the week and on weekends when needed.We are an Equal Opportunity Employer and do not discriminate against any employee or applicant for employment because of race, color, sex, age, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, status as a veteran, and basis of disability or any other federal, state or local protected class.Unsolicited Resumes from Third-Party Recruiters Please note that as per Dana policy, we do not accept unsolicited resumes from third-party recruiters unless such recruiters were engaged to provide candidates for a specified opening.
