Transportation Maintenance Planner 1 (40 Hour)

The State of Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) is hiring a Transportation Maintenance Planner 1 (Repair) to support daily operations of the Equipment Repair Division at our Newington Headquarters. The planner works closely with the Equipment Repair team, managing contracts, procurement, asset tracking, and fleet administration. Role Overview The Transportation Maintenance Planner 1 (Repair) serves as a central resource for contract and vendor management, procurement, asset tracking, and fleet administration by preparing purchase orders, managing inventory and asset records in AssetWorks, reviewing contracts and specifications, coordinating P‑Card requests, and maintaining motor vehicle files through closure. The position supports efficient operations across all facilities and leverages expertise in fleet management systems, telematics, equipment specifications, safety and environmental regulations, and Microsoft Office applications. Responsibilities Manage purchase orders, inventory, and asset records in AssetWorks. Review contracts and specifications, ensuring compliance with EEO and affirmative action regulations. Coordinate P‑Card requests and maintain motor vehicle files from acquisition to closure. Assist equipment repair teams by providing planning and estimation support. Use fleet management systems and telematics data to support operational excellence. Collaborate with vendors and contractors to ensure timely delivery and quality of services. Knowledge, Skills & Ability Knowledge of highway maintenance and construction methods and materials. Understanding of engineering principles, statutes, and policies pertaining to highway maintenance. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Proficiency with computer software and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access). Organizational and supervisory capabilities. Minimum Qualifications Five (5) years of experience coordinating highway maintenance or related activities. College training in civil engineering or related field: 15 semester hours count toward one‑half year of experience, up to a maximum of four (4) years for a bachelor’s degree. State employee experience substitutions (e.g., Transportation District Electrical Supervisor, Transportation Engineer 1, Transportation Landscape Designer 1, etc.) as detailed in the full posting. Preferred Qualifications Experience with contract/vendor management, including sourcing and interpreting federal, state, and local compliance requirements. Knowledge of fleet terminology, equipment components, and ability to write detailed specifications. Experience with fleet management software and telematics, interpreting GPS data. Familiarity with state/federal safety and environmental regulations and FMCSA regulations. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite. Special Requirements May be required to travel.
