Senior Manager, Utility Contracts
Crusoe
Crusoe is on a mission to accelerate the abundance of energy and intelligence . As the only vertically integrated AI infrastructure company built from the ground up, we own and operate each layer of the stack — from electrons to tokens — to power the world's most ambitious AI workloads. When you join Crusoe, you join a team that is building the future, faster.
We're in the midst of the greatest industrial revolution of our time. The demand for AI compute is boundless, and power is a bottleneck. We're solving that — with an energy-first approach that makes AI infrastructure better for the world and faster for the people innovating with AI.
We're looking for problem-solving, opportunity-finding teammates with a sense of urgency, who believe in the scale of our ambition and thrive on a path not fully paved — people who want to grow their careers alongside a team of experts across energy, manufacturing, data center construction, and cloud services.
If you want to do the most meaningful work of your career, help our customers and partners advance their AI strategies, and be part of a high-performing team that believes in each other, come build with us at Crusoe.
About This Role:
As Senior Manager, Utility Contracts, you will sit within the Energy Development Group (EDG) and own the full lifecycle of Crusoe's utility infrastructure agreements: negotiating new agreements and amendments with serving utilities, and managing the obligations under executed agreements across our data center portfolio. You will be the person who knows every deadline, every deliverable, and every counterparty commitment. You will work hand-in-hand with our real estate, power engineering, legal, and finance teams, and help shape the obligation-management platform we are building to scale this function across every future project.
This is a role for someone who has lived inside the utility world - who reads tariffs and connection requirements fluently, understands how utilities think about interconnection, cost recovery, and reliability obligations, and can lead negotiations with utility commercial and legal teams.
What You’ll Be Working On:
- Utility Agreement Negotiation : Lead the negotiation of utility infrastructure agreements for new and existing data center campuses - construction agreements, operating agreements, transfer agreements, and amendments - in coordination with EDG commercial leads, outside counsel, and utility counterparties.
- Obligation Management : Own the responsibility matrix for each project's agreement stack: every obligation tracked with its contractual cite, deadline, owner, and status. Run the monthly deadline review, drive early escalation of at-risk items, and make sure recurring obligations (reports, forecasts, certifications, payments) never slip.
- Utility Requirements & Compliance : Serve as EDG's authority on utility requirements - tariff provisions, end-user connection requirements, metering and interconnection specifications, Good Utility Practice, and NERC / RTO reliability obligations for large loads (load ride-through, UFLS, emergency operations, ramp rates) and translate them into actionable requirements for our engineering and operations teams.
- Construction agreements : Manage the contractual side of customer-build programs - design package submittals, procurement compliance against utility approved lists, commissioning and title transfer sequencing, easement and land-rights deliverables, and closeout obligations with enough EPC fluency to engage credibly with project and construction teams.
- Cross-Functional Coordination : Act as the connective tissue between EDG, Real Estate, Power Engineering, Legal, Finance, and our data center tenants on everything touching the utility agreements - from milestone payments and collateral postings to easement deliveries and operating protocols.
- Executive Reporting : Provide leadership with clear, current visibility into obligation status, upcoming deadlines, counterparty performance, and contract risks across the portfolio.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Deep Utility Experience : 8+ years in the electric utility sector, at a utility, or negotiating and managing utility agreements on behalf of large customers or developers - with direct experience in large-load interconnection, energy service / electric service agreements, and utility construction agreements.
- Utility Requirements Fluency : Strong working command of utility tariffs, end-user connection requirements, interconnection processes, metering standards, and reliability obligations (NERC standards, RTO/ISO requirements such as MISO, ERCOT, or CAISO large-load rules). You know how utilities operate, what they will and won't agree to, and why.
- EPC Exposure : Hands-on familiarity with the engineering, procurement, and construction lifecycle - design reviews, procurement standards, commissioning, and project closeout - sufficient to manage customer-build and transfer obligations credibly alongside project teams.
- Negotiation Track Record : Demonstrated success negotiating complex infrastructure agreements with utility counterparties, balancing commercial outcomes, schedule protection, and long-term relationships.
- Contract Management Rigor : Exceptional organization and attention to detail. You are the person who reads the footnotes, catches the cross-reference, and builds the system so nothing depends on memory.
- Cross-Functional Communication : Ability to translate contract language into clear actions for engineers, real estate teams, finance, and executives - and to communicate credibly with utility commercial, legal, and operations staff.
- Location : Based in, or willing to relocate to, Dallas, TX or San Francisco, CA.
Bonus Points:
- Experience supporting hyperscale data center, large industrial, or other large-load development projects.
- Familiarity with behind-the-meter / bring-your-own-capacity structures, customer-build lead lines, or asset transfer agreements with utilities.
- Experience implementing contract lifecycle management or obligation-tracking tools.
- Utility regulatory exposure (state commission proceedings, tariff filings)
- Competitive compensation and equity packages
- Restricted Stock Units
- Paid time off, paid holidays & leave of absence programs
- Comprehensive health, dental & vision insurance
- Employer contributions to HSA account
- Paid parental leave
- Paid life insurance, short-term and long-term disability
- Professional development & tuition reimbursement
- Mental health & wellness support
- Commuter benefits (parking & transit)
- Cell phone stipend
- 401(k) Retirement plan with company match up to 4% of salary
- Volunteer time off
- Global travel insurance & emergency assistance
- Daily meals allowance
- Additional perks & programs specific to location
Compensation will be paid in the range of up to $155,000 - $185,000+ Bonus. Restricted Stock Units are included in all offers. Compensation to be determined by the applicants knowledge, education, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
