Lead Mechanical Engineer - Buildings

This OpportunityWSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join our Property & Buildings team in Los Angeles, CA.This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong background in healthcare and other complex building sectors, including commercial, higher education, and civic projects. You will play a key role in leading multi-disciplinary projects and delivering high-quality mechanical systems design from concept through construction.Be involved in projects with our Property & Buildings Team and be part of a collaborative organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges.Your ImpactLead mechanical engineering design and delivery across a diverse portfolio including healthcare, commercial, higher education, and civic facilitiesOversee design of HVAC, air distribution, hydronic, plumbing, and life safety systems Serve as a technical lead and client point of contact throughout the project lifecycleManage projects from concept development through construction and close-out, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and budgetSupport client development and proposal efforts, contributing to growth in multiple sectorsEnsure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and sector-specific requirements, including healthcare regulationsCoordinate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver integrated, high-quality solutionsProvide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior engineers and designersPrepare and review technical reports, calculations, and specificationsWho You AreRequired QualificationsBachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering7+ years of experience in mechanical engineering design for building systemsExperience supporting healthcare and/or complex institutional or commercial projectsStrong knowledge of HVAC systems, building systems design, and engineering principlesExperience managing projects through design and construction phasesProficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and related design toolsStrong communication, leadership, and client-facing skillsPreferred QualificationsProfessional Engineer (PE) licenseExperience working across multiple sectors including healthcare, commercial, higher education, or civicFamiliarity with California codes and local jurisdiction requirementsExperience supporting business development and client relationship managementLEED AP or other sustainability credentialsWSP Benefits: WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits focused on a providing health and financial stability throughout the employee’s career.
