Senior Water Resources Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to lead the planning, design, and delivery of complex water resources projects. This role will support clients and project teams across areas such as flood risk management, stormwater drainage, hydrological and hydraulic modelling, river engineering, water infrastructure, and climate resilience. You will provide technical leadership from concept through to construction, ensuring solutions are practical, sustainable, compliant, and aligned with project objectives.


Key responsibilities include managing multidisciplinary projects, preparing technical reports and design documentation, developing and reviewing hydraulic and hydrologic models, undertaking flood assessments, and producing drainage and water management strategies. You will oversee design quality, budgets, programmes, risk management, and technical deliverables while coordinating with internal teams, contractors, regulators, and external stakeholders. The role will also involve mentoring engineers and developing technical capability within the wider team, as well as contributing to proposals, client presentations, and the continued improvement of engineering standards and processes.


To be successful, you will hold a degree in civil or water resources engineering, or a related discipline, and have significant professional experience in water engineering or a comparable technical environment. You will have strong knowledge of relevant design standards, legislation, flood risk principles, and industry guidance, together with experience using modelling and design software such as TUFLOW, MIKE, HEC-RAS, 12D, Civil 3D, or equivalent platforms. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to manage competing priorities, solve complex problems, and build effective relationships. Professional registration or chartered status, experience leading project teams, and knowledge of climate adaptation practices would be advantageous.
