Job Overview This Associate Senior Counsel position is part of the national legal organization. The role handles litigation arising from claims asserted against policyholders or the company, taking cases from inception through trial and appeal. You will deliver high-quality, proactive case handling, manage a caseload of moderate to higher complexity matters, and mentor less experienced attorneys. Responsibilities Leverage pre-trial and trial experience to apply litigation skills and techniques to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolution. Conduct proficient to advanced legal research and demonstrate strong and persuasive legal writing and presentation skills. Draft substantive pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other legal documents. Attend court events, depositions, and other appointments independently. Provide in-depth case analysis and recommendations to insured clients and Claim partners on file-handling strategies. Collaborate with expert witnesses and consultants to develop case strategies, evaluate technical matters, and prepare compelling testimony for litigation. Build and maintain strong internal and external client and business partner relationships, including accountability for managing client and partner relationships. Provide internal and external training, seminars and legal updates to insured clients and Claim partners. Provide leadership through mentoring other attorneys and legal support staff. Contribute to special projects and identify opportunities to support office goals and business needs. Fully utilize available technology, case-management system and automation. Travel as required to meet business needs. Perform other duties as assigned. Ideal Candidate Qualifications 5+ years of insurance defense litigation experience as a practicing attorney. Track record of preparing and/or litigating jury trials with successful courtroom outcomes. Strong technical knowledge in the practice area(s) with ability to communicate complex information to diverse audiences. Proficient oral and written advocacy skills, including summary judgment and appellate successes. In‑depth knowledge of the bench, bar, local jurisdictional practices, and adversaries. Collaborative relationships with colleagues, customers, and business partners to deliver exceptional service. Leadership through mentoring and influencing skills. Sound decision making, advanced negotiation skills, and effective multi-priority management. Flexible and agile mindset with willingness to take on new challenges. Must Have Credentials Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree; graduate of an accredited law school. 4 years experience as a practicing attorney. Active license in good standing to practice law in the required state(s). Experience handling hearings, trials, dispositive motion arguments, depositions or other court proceedings. Valid driver’s license (depending on location).
