We’re seeking a Database Administration / DBA Technical “Player / Coach” ManagerAre you a hands-on database leader who enjoys balancing team leadership with deep technical work? We are seeking a Database Administration / DBA Technical Manager to lead a high-impact enterprise DBA function responsible for the reliability, security, performance, and modernization of critical database platforms.This is a visible player/coach role where you will lead and mentor a team of DBAs while also serving as a senior technical expert and escalation point for complex production issues. This is not a sit-back management position. You will be directly involved in troubleshooting, automation, upgrades, migrations, and operational excellence across on-prem/ cloud environments.Why join us This is an opportunity to shape database strategy, improve operational maturity, develop talent, and directly influence enterprise reliability and cloud modernization efforts.What you will do• Lead, coach, and develop a team of database professionals• Own the health, availability, and performance of enterprise database environments including SQL Server, Oracle, Snowflake, MongoDB, and related technologies• Establish and maintain standards for security, access controls, backup and recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, monitoring, and alerting• Remain Hands on technical + Act as the senior escalation point for outages, incidents, root-cause analysis, and critical support needs• Lead upgrades, patching, migrations, modernization initiatives, and cloud adoption efforts with strong implementation and rollback planning• Drive database performance improvements through tuning, indexing, query optimization, and capacity planning• Advance automation for provisioning, maintenance, monitoring, access administration, and compliance• Partner closely with application, infrastructure, cloud, security, architecture, and analytics teams• Oversee documentation, operating procedures, vendor relationships, and roadmap planning for database platforms and adjacent data servicesWhat you bring• Experience leading database administration in complex enterprise environments• Strong hands-on expertise across multiple database platforms and production support models• Database operations, resiliency, modernization, and cloud initiatives• Experience with incident, problem, and change management, along with operational governance and documentation• Ability to balance technical depth, people leadership, and road mapping If you are a technical leader who still enjoys solving complex database challenges, we would love to connect.Direct-hire permanent opportunity with a local Des Moines client.
