Program Specialist

Description POSITION STATUS: This position is grant-funded and it is possible position may not extend past the one-year funding period. Maintaining this position throughout the grant cycle will be contingent upon meeting administrative and program requirements.
POSITION SUMMARY: Assists in the in the coordination and facilitation of designated activities and Club programming that support priority outcomes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Conducts business in a professional manner at all times. 2. Assist in facilitating efficient academic, character/leadership building, social/emotional wellness, and workforce development activities to meet the needs of children. 3. Follows procedures to ensure that activities are organized, implemented, and evaluated following safety regulations and operation standards in all phases of the process.
4. Assist program and management staff with project implementation of grant funded programs including recruitment and retention, marketing and promotion, community engagement, record keeping, data tracking, and reporting. 5. Provide guidance and role modeling to Club participants, while promoting and stimulating program participation. 6. Monitor and evaluate programs and services. 7. Register new members and participate in their club orientation process. 8. Exercise leadership in handling situations with Club members by utilizing guidance and discipline plan. 9. Assist in inventory and upkeep of Club equipment, completing maintenance tasks of equipment and Club areas as necessary. 10. Advise supervisor of needed supplies and equipment, repairs, and maintenance. 11. Ensure a productive work environment by participating in staff meetings and trainings. 12. Participate in planning and implementing of Club special events and represents the Club through Community outreach activities. 13. Follows all internal and external policies regarding Club and Bay Mills Indian Community operations 14. May be required to drive Club van (needing a chauffeur's license). 15. Will work a non-traditional workday with some scattered hours. 16. Other duties may be assigned within the scope and complexity of this position's essential functions. Requirements PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and walk. Regularly, the employee must kneel, bend, push/pull, and be able to reach above shoulder level. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; some projects may require assisting in moving additional, heavier items. The employee may be required to use hands for repetitive action such as simple grasping. The employee must be able to work nights and weekends and participate in activities provided to the youth. POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
1. One year of college coursework required; minimum of Associates Degree preferred. A combination of education and directly relatable experience may be substituted on an individual basis.
2. A minimum of one year experience in a Boys & Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of youth required. A combination of education and directly relatable experience may be substituted on an individual basis. 3. Applicant may be required to complete working interview and/or submit written tasks. 4. Applicant must submit a resume, cover letter, at least one letter of recommendation, and a list of references with contact information. 5. Knowledge of the mission, priority outcomes, programs, and procedures of Boys & Girls Clubs and the principles and practices of non-profit organizations. 6. A high level of enthusiasm and commitment to serving youth. 7. Knowledge of youth development. 8. Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems. 9. Ability to deal with the general public. 10. Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth. 11. Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment. 12. Strong communication skills both written and oral required. 13. Ability to manage multiple tasks and to develop solutions to problems with limited supervision. 14. Demonstrated organizational and project management abilities. 15. Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications; applicant may be required to obtain Mental Health First Aid Certification. 16. Must have a valid State Driver's License and clean driving record; may be required to obtain Michigan Chauffer's License. 17. Computer knowledge required. 18. Must maintain compliance with the Tribe's drug testing and background check policy, which includes a pre-hire drug screening. 19. Must be able to travel when required. 20. Must have an excellent past work record. 21. To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each function listed under the essential functions and physical demands categories of this position description.
