10 FTE for 191 days River Grove Elementary School Temporary Speech Language Pathologist Job Summary Position assesses, treats and provides services to students with speech, language, voice, fluency and hearing deficiencies in a resource room, classroom or other setting using treatment plans, behavior plans, 504 plans and IEPs. Tests students for special education qualifications and writes, reviews and updates treatment, behavior and 504 plans and IEPs. Implements treatment plans and works with other staff members to adapt classroom instruction, lessons and materials for individual students. Provides guidance, techniques and resources teachers can use in regular classroom/resource room settings. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Direct Services Prepares evaluation reports and selects and assigns levels of needed services. Develops and implements treatment plans for language problems including stuttering, delayed language and swallowing disorders and/or hearing impairments. Selects type of service including direct, integrated, consultative and monitored. Delivers necessary services, including assistive technology, and re-evaluates service delivery within required timelines. Analyzes results and adjusts treatment and activities as necessary. Coordinates services with other district special education programs, district staff and community resources. Plans, develops, writes and reviews treatment plans, behavior plans, 504 plans and IEPs according to federal and state laws and regulations and district policies and procedures. Maintains required records and ensures accuracy and necessary content as required by federal and state laws and regulations and district policies and procedures. Recommends modifications to the class/school/academic programs for students who require accommodations. Regularly uses oral, written and electronic communications to students and parents/guardians regarding student progress towards treatment, classroom and district education objectives/goals. Schedules parent conferences as needed or requested or required. Assists school staff members, students and parents/guardians in understanding the student's communication disorder and the role of the Speech and Language Pathologist. Observes, evaluates and refers students who need additional services and support. Works with principals, school staff members and parents/guardians regarding individual student behavior and discipline issues. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in applying conflict management and dispute resolution techniques. Assessments Screens referred students, utilizing appropriate procedures, techniques and various formal and informal assessments and evaluates students for service eligibility. Adequately, timely and clearly interprets assessment results using plain, concise language for diverse audiences. Assessment information and results will be supported by a written report. Assistance and Support Internal Provides direct and consultative services to teachers in classroom settings as needed or requested. Works collaboratively with parents/guardians, teachers, learning specialists, school psychologists, instructional assistants, occupational therapists, nurses and physical therapists in support of each student's total educational program. Participates as necessary in: Special Services team meetings; evaluation planning meetings; parent conferences; IEP meetings; placement determination meetings; transition plan meetings; manifestation determination meetings; and other meetings as determined or required. Assistance and support External Consults with public and private community agencies as needed. Participates in activities that will increase public and professional awareness of the needs and services available for speech, language and hearing‑impaired children. General Works collaboratively with district administrators, teachers and other school staff members to ensure compliance with federal and state laws, federal and state regulations and district policies and procedures regarding IDEA and Section 504 requirements and Medicaid procedures. Completes Medicaid billing forms. Presents issues and concerns to Director of Student Services for review and resolution. Keeps abreast of best practices, maintains professional relationships with colleagues, students and families and participates in activities which all enhance service delivery for the benefit of students and their families. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of all district policies and procedures. Maintains consistent, daily and punctual attendance. Non-essential Duties And Responsibilities Operates various office equipment including audio visual equipment/devices, telephones and photocopy machines. Reviews, selects and submits requests for materials, supplies and equipment which support and enhance service delivery. Attends in‑service trainings, staff meetings and other meetings as assigned. Attends professional growth activities related to job responsibilities. Provides staff development activities for staff during in‑service meetings. Participates in the district's comprehensive planning process for students with special needs. Communicates information about the role of a Speech and Language Pathologist to students, staff, parents/guardians and community members. Supervises students both in and outside of classroom settings. Provides field supervision for intern speech and language pathology students as assigned. Reports issues to principals and the appropriate authorities including safety, sanitary and fire hazards, vandalism, thefts and errant wildlife. Other Requirements Consistently follows all applicable federal and state laws and all district policies, rules and supervisor directions. Observes ergonomics of sedentary office work including placement of computers and monitors, and sitting alignment. Observes proper lifting techniques and other strategies to avoid accidents and personal injury while performing job duties. Performs other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities All school employees have some responsibility for supervising students and assisting in maintaining a safe environment. Qualifications Education and/or Experience: A Master's degree in Speech and Language Pathology is required. A valid Oregon teacher license with necessary endorsements or a State of Oregon Speech‑Language Pathology License is required. A minimum of three (3) years of successful experience in pediatric speech and language pathology evaluation and treatment is preferred. Conversational and technical fluency in American Sign Language is preffered. Experience in a K‑12 public school setting is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of child and adolescent growth and development is required. Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict, maintaining confidentiality, listening to others, keeping emotions under control, remaining open to others' ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit. Demonstrates the ability to remain calm and professional in an environment with frequent interruptions. Interacts with staff and students appropriately. Language Skills: Ability to communicate in English fluently both verbally and in writing, including proficiency in spelling and grammar. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, staff, regulatory agencies, vendors and members of the community. Ability to read and interpret documents including governmental regulations, safety rules and operating and maintenance instructions and instruction manuals. Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence with high degrees of accuracy and professionalism. Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate rates, ratios, percentages and proportions. Ability to read and interpret various charts, bar graphs and similar visual data depictions. Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in oral, schedule or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving more than one variable. Computer Skills: Ability to effectively use office computers and internet access for email, research, word processing, database manipulation, visual presentations and general web‑based applications. Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to exercise good judgment and work effectively in a dynamic environment. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A valid Oregon Driver's License is required. Must have or be able to obtain various certificates, licenses and/or registrations as required by federal, state or local law(s) and/or determined by the district.
