VoteRiders Southern Regional Manager
OVERVIEW
The VoteRiders Southern Regional Manager (SRM) leads VoteRiders’ programming across the Southern region and grows our impact there. This individual works closely with VoteRiders’ National Field Director, our Department Directors and Deputy Directors, our Chief Operating Officer, and our Chief Executive/Executive Director to plan, manage, and execute VoteRiders’ voter ID-focused field programs across the South.
The Southern Regional Manager will lead overall regional programming and partnership work, serving as the primary contact for state-based partners in the Southern states of Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, and will oversee the work in Georgia and Florida.
VoteRiders does not maintain a physical office, but candidates must be physically based in or willing to relocate immediately to the Southern region and be able to travel regularly within the specified states to be considered for this position. While candidates from the five southern states of AL, FL, GA, LA, and MS will be considered, we have a preference for candidates based in or willing to relocate to one of the three southern states in which VoteRiders does not currently have field presence – AL, LA, or MS.
The Southern Regional Manager reports to our National Field Director. This position will directly supervise the Georgia State Director and Florida State Director. This position will sometimes require you to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
This grant-funded position is funded through July 2027, with the possibility of an extension.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Partner Outreach and Relationship Management
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement state-specific strategic plans for Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana for partner organization outreach and engagement, supporting a broad and diverse range of partners to incorporate and sustain voter ID education, assistance, and advocacy into their work.
- Partnership Development: Building on previous VoteRiders work in these three southern states, proactively identify, establish, maintain, and deepen meaningful partnerships with a growing number of regional, statewide, and local organizations. Support voter ID outreach and assistance to at-risk communities, leveraging VoteRiders’ ID-focused resources, tools, and services.
- Cross-Program Leverage: Leverage relationships with AL, MS, LA, and regional partners for the benefit of other VoteRiders programs by forging connections and supporting partnership development in other states or nationally.
Voter and Community Engagement
- Community Events: As part of the states’ strategic plans, join virtual and in-person community events to engage voters and at-risk communities directly, offering voter ID education and assistance as needed.
- Event Collaboration: Proactively coordinate with the Voter Outreach & Data Manager to co-host volunteer events with key partners, maintaining a presence for the full duration of the events to provide local expertise and technical support.
- Media: Coordinate with the Communications and Digital team for website updates and earned media opportunities. Follow brand and messaging guidelines, routing all media inquiries through the Communications Director or their designee.
Policy Monitoring and Engagement
Legislative Monitoring: Working in coalition with partners and in conjunction with the VoteRiders Legal team, monitor state-level legislative developments and initiatives related to voting rights and voter ID laws.
Reporting, Staff, and Staff/Program Management
- Data and Tracking: Lead and maintain organizational resource development and reporting efforts for AL, MS, and LA field programs, including weekly reports, monthly reports, metrics collection, new partner tracking, website updates, and other updates as needed for internal and external purposes.
- Staff Supervision: Directly supervise, support, and mentor the Georgia and Florida state directors; track goals at least quarterly; provide regular feedback; review weekly reports; and hold staff accountable for all metrics, voter story submissions, event attendance, and data entry. Enforce organizational policies and procedures, ensuring the team is informed about programmatic changes and updates.
- Development Support: Work with the development department for region- and state-specific grant proposals and reporting, as needed.
- Goal Setting: Develop, track, and report on overall goals/metrics for Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana, relevant to field programs and other departmental work feeding into the Southern region programs.
- External Representation: Represent VoteRiders externally, including with partners, the media, and other stakeholders.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Liaise cross-functionally with other teams within VoteRiders as needed to ensure mutually reinforcing and successful outcomes.
- Budget Management: On an ongoing basis, proactively track and monitor AL, LA, and MS expenses against the approved budget. Flag variances to the National Field Director and Finance Manager and request modifications in a timely manner as needed.
Organizational Stewardship
- Relationship Building: Build and maintain respectful, trust-based relationships with voters, volunteers, partners, and colleagues. Contribute to an environment where community members and teammates feel heard, valued, and supported.
- Collective Goals: Work effectively with cross-functional colleagues across VoteRiders; share relevant information, invite input, and follow through on shared commitments to advance collective goals.
- Problem Solving: Approach challenges proactively with sound judgment and a problem-solving mindset. Identify opportunities to strengthen workflows, relationships, or program implementation and elevate issues as needed.
- Professionalism: Represent VoteRiders professionally and consistently in all internal and external interactions, upholding the organization’s nonpartisan values and trusted reputation.
- Continuous Improvement: Seek and respond constructively to feedback, adapt to changing priorities and new responsibilities, and contribute to continuous improvement in your work and the broader team.
- Team Participation: Prioritize actively participating in internal activities, including full team meetings, brainstorms, debriefs, culture-building activities, and regular check-ins with your supervisor. Engage in organizational and team-wide professional development and learning opportunities.
- Ad Hoc Projects: Other duties and special projects as assigned, including assisting with overall organizational efforts and priorities on an ad hoc basis.
