AGRICULTURAL TECHNICIAN III (SEASONAL)

Agricultural Technician III (Seasonal) Salary: $20.54 – $23.36 per hour Location: Topaz Border Protection Station, Sacramento, CA Job Summary: Under direction of the Station Manager or Shift Supervisor, the Agricultural Technician III independently performs the most difficult and varied regulatory inspections on vehicles and commodities to prevent the introduction of unwanted pests into California. The Ag Tech III acts as the program expert directing proper inspection of vehicles for compliance with agricultural commodity quarantine laws and regulations and the determination of admissibility of agricultural commodities. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. The CDFA does not participate in E-Verify. Key Responsibilities: Conduct inspections of incoming vehicles and agricultural commodities to ensure compliance with county and state quarantine laws. Act as expert adviser to other staff on quarantine regulations and inspection procedures. Determine admissibility of agricultural commodities and document inspection results. Maintain accurate inspection logs, reports, and related paperwork. Interpret and apply complex regulatory requirements during inspections. Collaborate with border patrol and other agencies to enforce quarantine laws. Working Conditions: Employees are routinely assigned to rotating work shifts, including day, evening, night, weekends, and holidays. The job is performed outdoors in the vehicle and truck inspection areas about 80% of the time, with exposure to variable temperatures and weather, dust, fumes, and moderate noise. Remaining time is spent in an office setting. Uniform and grooming standards are required. Minimum Qualifications: See Class Specification for full requirements.
