About Our Client:
Our client is a leading and highly respected behavioral health provider offering a comprehensive spectrum of treatment services for individuals with opioid use disorders and other substance use disorders. Their dedicated team delivers evidence-based, recovery-oriented care tailored to each client’s unique needs, with a strong focus on supporting long-term recovery and improved quality of life.
They are seeking a compassionate and experienced Substance Use Disorder Counselor.
Position Overview: The Counselor will provide trauma-informed, strengths-based, and recovery-oriented counseling services within a residential treatment setting. The Counselor will engage clients in individualized treatment, support recovery goals, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to promote rehabilitation, stability, and successful community integration.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience working with individuals affected by substance use disorders and be knowledgeable about substance use treatment, recovery planning, and the challenges associated with detoxification and withdrawal.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual counseling and develop, monitor, and review individualized treatment and recovery plans.
- Assess client needs, progress, strengths, and barriers to recovery and recommend appropriate services and resources.
- Provide trauma-informed therapeutic interventions that promote social, cognitive, behavioral, and life-skills development.
- Help clients develop effective strategies for managing stress, life circumstances, and challenges related to recovery.
- Facilitate community meetings, activities of daily living, client engagement, and treatment planning within the residential milieu.
- Provide case management support related to legal matters, court documentation, educational assistance, employment resources, and other client needs.
- Coordinate with vocational services to incorporate vocational rehabilitation and employment goals into treatment planning.
- Make referrals for psychological, psychiatric, medical, vocational, HIV, parenting, and other supportive services as appropriate.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to ongoing assessment and treatment planning.
- Provide education and support to clients receiving medications for substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and co-occurring medical conditions.
- Collaborate with other clinical staff to share information and support comprehensive client assessment and treatment planning.
- Obtain, monitor, and incorporate toxicology results into treatment planning as directed.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and required reports.
- Participate in required trainings, in-services, staff meetings, and professional development activities.
- Provide coverage for other counselors as needed.
- In residential settings, conduct room inspections to ensure cleanliness and compliance with program rules and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- CASAC and Bachelor's Degree required, OR CASAC with 8 years of work experience in a residential treatment setting.
- Minimum 3 years of directly related experience working with a substance use disorder population.
- Knowledge of substance use disorder treatment, including detoxification and withdrawal symptoms.
- Experience providing counseling and treatment services in a residential or similar behavioral health setting.
- Strong understanding of recovery-oriented and client-centered treatment approaches.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse, multicultural client population.
- Strong communication, documentation, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Word.
- Familiarity with Uni/Care preferred.
- Familiarity with the Therapeutic Community (TC) model/process preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
