REPORTS TO: Principal SUPERVISES: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants. PURPOSE: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. Duties and Responsibilities Management of Instructional Time: The teacher has materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson ready at the start of the lesson or instructional activity; starts quickly; gets students on task quickly; maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task. Management of Student Behavior: The teacher has established rules and procedures for routine administrative matters, verbal participation, talk, movement, monitors behavior during activities and transitions, stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently, yet maintains student dignity. Instructional Presentation: The teacher begins lesson with a review, introduces objectives, speaks fluently, presents using clear concepts, provides examples and demonstrations, assigns tasks with high success rate, asks appropriate level questions, conducts at brisk pace, makes smooth transitions, summarizes main points. Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: Sets clear standards and due dates, circulates during class work to check performance, uses oral, written, and other products to check progress, poses questions clearly and one at a time. Instructional Feedback: Provides feedback on correctness of in‑class work, prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work, affirms correct oral responses, provides sustaining feedback after incorrect or no response. Facilitating Instruction: Has an instructional plan compatible with school/system goals, uses diagnostic information to develop and revise objectives/tasks, maintains accurate records, matches objectives, strategies, assessment, aligns with student needs, uses available resources to support instruction. Interacting Within the Educational Environment: Treats all students fairly and equitably; interacts effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community. Performing Non‑Instructional Duties: Carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned, adheres to laws, policies, rules, follows professional development plan and demonstrates growth. Additional Job Functions: Performs other related work as required. Minimum Training and Experience Degree in education or related area qualifying for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Physical Requirements: Must use classroom tools, exert negligible force daily, light work consistency. Data Conception: Ability to judge characteristics of data, people, or things. Interpersonal Communication: Must speak and/or signal to convey information and receive instructions. Language Ability: Reads and prepares correspondence, reports, forms, instructional materials. Intelligence: Applies logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and interpret technical instructions. Verbal Aptitude: Records and delivers information, explains procedures, follows oral/written instructions; effective communication in technical/professional languages. Numerical Aptitude: Utilizes formulas, operations, percentages, descriptive statistics, inference, theory. Form/Spatial Aptitude: Inspects items for length, width, shape. Motor Coordination: Coordinates hands and eyes rapidly and accurately with office equipment. Manual Dexterity: Handles various items, office equipment, hand tools; minimal eye/hand/foot coordination. Color Discrimination: Differentiates colors and shades. Interpersonal Temperament: Deals with people, adaptable to stress and emergencies. Physical Communication: Talks and hears, including telephone communication. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Constantly monitor safety and well‑being of students, especially inclusive activities. Motivate students. Maintain a clean and orderly environment; perform general clerical duties. Maintain order and discipline in a classroom; operate common office machines. Maintain basic files and records. Understand and follow oral and written instructions. Establish and maintain effective working relationships required by work assignments.
