Laboratory Support Technician - Full Time (5:00pm - 1:30am; Rotating Weekends and Holidays)

Position Summary The Laboratory Support Technician (LST) reports to the Laboratory Support Services Supervisor and provides quality customer‑oriented laboratory services including specimen procurement, processing, and specialized procedures. The LST communicates information to laboratory users to ensure efficient department operation and trains less experienced technicians. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Specimen Processing Understand study protocols and process specimens accordingly. Prepare the workstation with essential supplies for smooth processing. Receive and verify specimen identification per laboratory policies. Label specimens according to policies. Distribute specimens to appropriate lab sections within specified time frames. Centrifuge and aliquot specimens while following special handling instructions. Process, prepare, and store specimens for reference laboratory send‑out. Process random and 24‑hour urine specimens. Monitor and record daily temperatures and perform scheduled equipment maintenance. Customer Service and Communication Communicate and cooperate to improve patient services and quality. Demonstrate excellent communication skills with staff and callers. Establish positive, professional relationships with coworkers and managers. Deliver reports in a timely manner. Respect confidentiality rules and convey accurate information. Answer the telephone according to department policy. Complete logs for documentation and troubleshooting, and communicate to supervisor. Teamwork Manage time and meet attendance/punctuality standards. Assist coworkers on different benches as needed. Follow department guidelines for dress code. Document activities related to Quality Improvement initiatives. Assist in pickup and delivery of specimens. Attend department meetings, review minutes, and document the review. Perform special procedures as requested by supervisors, assistants, and specialists. Follow infection control and safety procedures. Information Systems Utilize technical training and acquire knowledge of the Sunquest LIS. Perform order entry, inquiry, crediting, and other basic LIS functions. Perform patient registration functions, including information updates. Ensure current information in specimen order or comment. Training Assist in training new lab support technicians and students. Commit to self‑development by attending one BMC training session per year. Other Duties Perform other duties as needed. Job Requirements Education: High School Diploma. Experience: One year of Phlebotomy, EKG, and/or specimen processing experience is preferred. Certifications: Phlebotomy Certification (ASCP) preferred. Compensation Salary range: $20.12–$26.02 per hour. This estimate is based on minimum qualifications and is adjusted for education, experience, and certifications.
