Authorization Coordinator (VFASP)

This position will fully engage in the non-clinical aspects of day-to-day operations of the medical practice. It also serves as a liaison between patients and medical support staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma/GED equivalent required
• AA in business administration or related preferred
• A minimum of 3 years of insurance and authorization experience 
• Must be a fast, accurate typist and demonstrate skill in Microsoft Office products
• Epic and NextGen experience preferred

• Knowledge of business office principles and procedures
• Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to prepare product from rough drafts, review and edit reports and correspondence
• Knowledge of basic arithmetic to make calculations, balance and reconcile figures and make changes accurately
• Skill in operating various types of office equipment
• Skill in using Microsoft Office products
• Skills in time management and organization
• Ability to effectively interact with physicians, Board Members, ancillary staff, clients, vendors, etc.
• Ability to type fast and accurately
• Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction
• Ability to sort and file materials correctly by alphabetic or numeric systems
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, physicians, and the public
• Ability to create and edit documents, be multi-task oriented, exercise independent judgment and prioritize projects

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Research and process authorization requests.
2. Verify eligibility and benefits for patients.
3. Perform "stat" coordinator duties as requested.
4. Assist medical assistants with rounds as needed.
5. Monitor incoming calls, answer, and screen, as necessary.
6. Check patients in as needed
7. Inquire about any new patient information (change of address, telephone, new insurance, etc.).
8. Scan new insurance card.
9. Help patient complete necessary forms.
10. Input new information into computer.
11. Receives and post payments and co-pays from patients and issues receipts as required.
12. Runs reports as required to balance charges and payments.
13. Prepares deposit for the day if required.
14. Create and update Excel spreadsheets as assigned.
15. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
16. Attend meetings as required.
