Compensation: $23-$25/hr

Position Summary

As the Lead Facilities Technician, you perform preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, and general building maintenance to ensure Urban Ecology Center facilities are safe, reliable, welcoming, and well-maintained.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

FACILITIES, GROUNDS, AND VEHICLES- MAINTENANCE LEAD

• Represent the Facilities team as primary contact for Menomonee Valley
• Perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs. 
• Conduct facility inspections and identify emerging issues. 
• Provide outstanding customer service to staff and visitors. 
• Exercise stewardship of organizational assets and resources. 
• Perform regular building walk-throughs to ensure cleanliness and identify maintenance needs.
• Provide day-to-day support to the Facilities Caretaker, answering questions related to ongoing building cleanliness. Check in weekly with the Caretaker to ensure they have the information, direction, and resources to complete their job effectively.
• Check in regularly with dept managers at the branch to ensure the building is meeting cleanliness and maintenance standards and address concerns. The check-ins include but are not limited to attending the monthly branch meetings.
• Operate heavy machinery, including but not limited to a 14-passenger bus and utility truck. 
• Ensure snow removal is done promptly and professionally.
• Conscientious with excellent communication skills

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• You have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the operation of a commercial facility, including a background and knowledge of heating, boilers, air conditioning, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as equipment and vehicle maintenance and repairs.
• You must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the requirements of insurability under Urban Ecology Center’s commercial vehicle insurance policy.
• A Safety background and training in Safety/OSHA standards.
• You can operate equipment relevant to the position.
• First Aid/CPR Certification is required; the UEC can assist in obtaining.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

• 2 or more years of college education in a related field is recommended; completion of a four-year degree program.
• A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or the ability to obtain a CDL is preferred; the UEC can support in attainment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• You can bend, crawl, kneel, stoop, stand,  lift, and move materials of significant weight for 75% or more of your work hours, with or without accommodation.

What does a typical workday look like?

CONDITION AND LOCATION:  

• Open office workspace with an active team atmosphere. Using shared workspaces at all three UEC locations. Up to 50% of the work time will be spent outdoors in all weather conditions throughout the year.

SCHEDULE:

• Standard business hours with occasional evening and weekend events.

EQUIPMENT USED: 

• Computer equipment, Google software, heavy machinery, power tools.

Team and Supervision

• You will be managed by the Facilities Director and provide day-to-day support to the Facilities Caretaker at Menomonee Valley. 
• Though all of our teams work together in some capacity, you will most frequently collaborate with department leaders and the Land Management team.
• In this role, you will have the opportunity to join other similar efforts where interest and schedule allows.
• All UEC team members should expect interaction with volunteers, members, and youth participants.

Organizational Support

• Most team members are asked to support our building hours by providing building coverage, which may include opening/closing the building, communicating with staff on-site, and welcoming visitors or guests. In your role, you may be asked to provide back-up support on an as-needed basis.
