Modular Building Systems International (MBSI) is seeking an experienced Vice President of Construction & Operations to lead the execution, financial performance, quality, and operational delivery of our construction business.

Reporting directly to the CEO, this executive will serve as the single point of operational accountability for MBSI projects from award through final closeout, with responsibility for schedule, budget, margin, quality, safety, code compliance, field execution, yard operations, and customer satisfaction.

This is a hands‑on executive leadership position, not an office‑only role. The successful candidate must be equally comfortable reviewing project financials, coaching a Project Manager, walking a jobsite, inspecting workmanship, holding a subcontractor accountable, hiring and managing Superintendents, improving Yard operations, and communicating directly with customers.

The VP will have the authority necessary to lead the operational organization and make day‑to‑day construction decisions within established company policies and financial limits.

A primary objective of this position is to build a scalable, accountable construction organization that consistently delivers successful projects while materially reducing the CEO's involvement in day‑to‑day construction and operational decisions.

As MBSI continues to grow, this position may also offer the opportunity for expanded executive operational responsibility based on performance, leadership capability, and the needs of the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Own the operational outcome of construction and installation projects from award through final closeout.
• Lead Project Managers, Superintendents, Yard/Refurbishment leadership, field personnel, subcontractors, and other construction partners.
• Recruit, select, develop, and manage Superintendents and other operational personnel as needed.
• Establish clear project execution plans, responsibilities, schedules, budgets, and accountability.
• Maintain reliable project cost-to-complete and margin forecasts.
• Identify project risks early and implement corrective action before they materially affect cost, schedule, quality, or customer relationships.
• Ensure change orders are identified, documented, priced, approved, and communicated appropriately.
• Oversee Yard and refurbishment operations, including workflow, productivity, inspections, building readiness, material controls, and quality.
• Establish and enforce quality‑control standards for both Yard and field operations.
• Reduce preventable rework, damage, material loss, warranty costs, and unnecessary construction expenses.
• Establish strong subcontractor selection, performance, and accountability standards.
• Ensure projects comply with applicable building codes, permitting requirements, safety requirements, and OSHA standards.
• Serve as MBSI's senior operational representative with key customers, general contractors, government customers, inspectors, and construction partners.
• Build practical operating procedures, KPIs, reporting, and management systems that support continued growth without unnecessary bureaucracy.
• Develop the operational leadership team and establish clear accountability throughout the organization.

Project Financial Accountability

Responsibilities include:

• Project budgets and cost controls
• Committed and actual cost review
• Estimated cost to complete
• Projected final cost and margin
• Change‑order management
• Procurement and subcontractor cost control
• Identification of margin deterioration
• Corrective action plans
• Accurate operational information supporting WIP and financial reporting

The VP owns the operational accuracy and performance of the project , while Finance maintains the company's accounting and financial‑reporting functions.

Field Operations & Superintendents

The VP will provide executive leadership over MBSI's field organization and will:

• Direct and hold Superintendents accountable for project execution.
• Determine appropriate field leadership and staffing for projects.
• Recruit and hire Superintendents and other operational personnel as necessary.
• Establish expectations for scheduling, daily reporting, subcontractor coordination, quality, safety, and inspections.
• Maintain an active presence on significant jobsites.
• Personally verify critical construction and quality milestones when appropriate.
• Address performance problems promptly and make personnel or subcontractor changes when necessary.

Yard & Refurbishment Operations

The VP will have executive oversight and accountability for MBSI's Yard and refurbishment operations, including:

• Yard workflow and production scheduling
• Building preparation and deployment readiness
• Refurbishment planning and cost control
• Quality‑control inspections
• Returning‑building inspections
• Material purchasing, receiving, storage, and usage controls
• Productivity and turnaround times
• Rework and damage reduction
• Coordination between Yard requirements and project schedules
• Accountability and performance of Yard leadership

Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Workmanship and quality control
• Yard and field inspections
• Corrective work and rework
• Building‑code compliance
• Permitting and inspections
• OSHA and jobsite safety
• Subcontractor safety and performance

The expectation is straightforward: work should be completed correctly, safely, and to MBSI standards the first time.

Customer Leadership

The VP will serve as MBSI's senior operational representative for major projects and customers.

This includes:

• Establishing clear customer communication and escalation procedures.
• Resolving construction‑related customer concerns promptly.
• Participating in key project and customer meetings.
• Developing strong relationships with owners, general contractors, government customers, inspectors, and other partners.
• Protecting MBSI's contractual and financial interests while maintaining strong customer relationships.
• Becoming the executive operational contact customers can rely upon without routinely escalating construction matters to the CEO.

Qualifications & Experience

• 10+ years of progressive commercial construction experience, including significant leadership responsibility.
• Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent construction projects.
• Proven experience leading managers, not simply managing individual projects.
• Experience managing Project Managers, Superintendents, field personnel, and subcontractors.
• Strong project financial acumen, including budgets, cost‑to‑complete forecasting, change orders, project P&L, and margin management.
• Proven ability to build or improve construction operations, systems, and accountability.
• Strong working knowledge of major building trades, including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, low voltage, and general building systems.
• Strong knowledge of building codes, inspections, quality control, and construction safety.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit, develop, and hold strong field leadership accountable.
• Strong customer‑facing communication, negotiation, and problem‑solving skills.
• Comfortable working with significant autonomy in an entrepreneurial, privately held organization.
• Government, federal, airport, and/or complex commercial construction experience strongly preferred.
• Modular, prefabricated, temporary structure, or permanent modular construction experience preferred but not required.

Preferred Credentials

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related discipline preferred; substantial equivalent experience will be considered.
• MBA, Master's in Construction Management, Engineering Management, or related advanced degree is a plus.
• General Contractor license or substantial GC‑level commercial construction experience strongly preferred.
• OSHA 30 preferred.
• PMP, Lean Six Sigma, or similar project/operations certifications are a plus.

• Build and develop a strong operational leadership team.
• Successfully manage complex and high‑profile projects.
• Create scalable construction processes capable of supporting continued company growth.
• Materially reduce the CEO's involvement in routine construction decisions and operational problem‑solving.

Compensation

Base Salary: $150,000–$185,000, depending on experience, ability to scale operations, plus performance‑based bonus opportunity.
