The Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs is looking for a Marketing Specialist to join our team at the Wisconsin Challenge Academy on Fort McCoy. In this role, you'll help tell the Challenge Academy story through marketing, outreach, communications, and social media while helping us connect with the youth, families, schools, and communities we serve. The Wisconsin Challenge Academy is a residential alternative education program that helps reclaim the lives of youth by providing the education, structure, leadership, and life skills they need to succeed as adults and become responsible citizens. Salary Information Starting pay is between $27.00 and $29.00 / hr. This position is on the 07/04 pay schedule/range. A 12-month probation will be required. For current permanent state employees, pay will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan. Must possess or be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license as a condition of continued employment. Available to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed. Available for frequent statewide travel. Available for overnight travel on occasion. In order to gain access to DMA facilities or air bases, and to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled, DMA will conduct a comprehensive background check which includes an FBI fingerprint-based background check. The Department of Military Affairs does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9. This is a State of Wisconsin Civil Service position. The DMA does not require current or previous military experience. All new permanent, project, and limited term employees will be required to report to Joint Force Headquarters (JFHQ) in Madison on the Monday of their first week of employment for the New Employee Orientation (NEO) program. Additional information will be sent to the new employees and their supervisors on the Tuesday prior to NEO. Under the supervision of the Academy Director, this position is responsible for developing, coordinating, and administering outreach, communications, marketing, and public relations activities for the Wisconsin Challenge Academy. This position develops and implements strategic communications and outreach initiatives designed to increase public awareness, strengthen recruitment efforts, and support the Academy’s mission. Responsibilities include planning and executing statewide marketing and outreach campaigns; developing communications plans, promotional materials, and digital content; managing social media platforms and media relations; and evaluating outreach data and trends to evaluate program effectiveness; and preparing reports related to recruitment, outreach, marketing and public relations activities. The outreach coordinator oversees the Cadet Ambassador Program, recruiting, training and mentoring Cadets who represent the Academy at recruitment events, presentations and community engagements. With the Admissions Department, this position serves as a liaison with schools, community organizations, government agencies, military partners, media outlets, and other stakeholders to build and maintain strong relationships that support program awareness. This position also coordinates special events, official visits and presentations involving partner organizations, community leaders, elected officials, military leadership, and other distinguished visitors. The Outreach Coordinator also plans and implements promotional campaigns that increase program visibility, strengthen community engagement and support Cadet recruitment and placement opportunities. As an integral member of the Challenge Academy team, this position plans, coordinates, and implements comprehensive communications and outreach strategies that advance the Academy’s mission of helping Wisconsin youth develop the education, leadership, and life skills needed to become productive, responsible citizens. Qualifications Candidates who meet minimum qualifications will have experience with: Microsoft Office Suite or Google Suite. Use of graphic design software or photo-editing software. Government operations and organizational structure familiarity. In addition to the minimum qualifications, well-qualified candidates will also have the following preferred qualifications: Independently plan, organize, coordinate, and/or execute multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously. Training and/or experience in modern public relations, media relations, marketing, and outreach strategies/techniques. Management of social media platforms for an organization or a government entity.
