Cognitive Intervention Specialist SY26-27 South Bend Community School Corp, Wilson Elementary School – South Bend, Indiana Starting Date: Immediately Job Details Job ID: 5752490 Application Deadline: Jun 07, 2027 11:59 PM (Eastern Standard Time) Position Type: Full-Time Job Description Position Title: Cognitive Intervention Specialist Salary Range: Teacher Salary Contract Length: Teacher Contract Immediate Supervisor: Principal Basic Function: Assist and support colleagues in the implementation of strategies for students at the building level by sharing proven instructional techniques and materials. Monitor the school’s interventions and coordinate with the overall school literacy program to ensure quality instruction and to improve students’ reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. Provide intervention to identified EL students. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provide intervention support 50% of the school day to identified students at risk of failing or who are failing in reading, language arts, and/or math. Works with struggling students during the 8-Step Success period. Coordinate with teachers to suggest alternative teaching methods and ideas for students, including: Demonstrate exemplary classroom language‑acquisition practices. Provide professional development on secondary language acquisition theory. Work with teachers individually or in collaborative teams, providing practical support on a full range of reading, writing, and listening strategies for students. Provide leadership for integration of strategies and practices across the school community. Help strengthen family and school ties by engaging families in English language instruction. Qualifications Possess a valid teaching license with an endorsement and at least two years experience teaching students. Have knowledge of research‑based instructional strategies, methodology, and materials for students. Be able to model various scaffolding techniques for students. Have knowledge of second‑language acquisition theory and practice. Possess the ability to differentiate instruction and to develop Individual Learning Plans (ILPs) for students with various English proficiency levels. Demonstrate above‑average ability to communicate and work well with others, successful teaching experiences, thorough and complete knowledge of ELP standards and content of grade level areas, and proven leadership ability. Ability to conduct successful staff development; advanced knowledge of reading and writing processes; ability to conduct regular meetings with administrators, to assist in the collaboration of the school‑wide reading plan, to train teachers on the implementation of Individual Learning Plans, to interpret Language Assessment Scale data and other EL standardized test results and to disaggregate this data for instructional purposes.
