Recruitment Number 26-0041 Department: Attorney General - Child Support Enforcement Agency Division Positions: Legal Clerk I, Legal Clerk II, Legal Clerk Salary: Legal Clerk I: $3,471 to $4,388 per month Legal Clerk II: $3,748 to $4,742 per month Legal Clerk: $4,054 to $5,133 per month Note: Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds and applicant qualifications. Applicants will be placed on the eligible register for all levels for which they are qualified. Legal Clerk I Responsibilities: Performs routine clerical work involving preparing, typing, maintaining and processing legal forms, documents and materials. Assists with more difficult tasks under closer supervision for training purposes. Performs other duties as required. Legal Clerk II Responsibilities: Performs a wide variety of legal clerical work in support of attorneys, primarily involving the preparation, processing and filing of moderately difficult legal clerical work. Carries out more difficult tasks under supervision and guidance on a progressively responsible basis. Legal Clerk Responsibilities: Independently performs a wide variety of legal clerical work in support of attorneys. Prepares, processes and files a variety of complex legal and court documents with courts or quasi‑judicial bodies. Prepares a successive variety of documents for each case requiring specialized procedures. Prioritizes assignments to meet frequent time constraints and established deadlines. Performs other related duties as assigned. Legal Authorization to Work All applicants must be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or otherwise eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States. Qualifications – Legal Clerk I Experience: Substantially equivalent to one (1) year of progressively responsible clerical work experience involving preparing, typing, processing and filing legal documents, or examining complex business documents for compliance. Knowledge: Office practices and procedures; grammar, spelling, punctuation, word usage and sentence construction; clerical requirements for preparing and typing a variety of complex documents and forms. Ability: Accurately prepare, type, process and file a variety of complex documents; research information; present research orally and in writing; maintain files and records systems; carry out legal office clerical routines; operate computer equipment to prepare legal documents, reports and correspondence; input and extract data from information systems; work within constant time constraints; explain legal processes and departmental policies; type at a rate of 40 net words per minute; and interact effectively with attorneys, court personnel and the public. Qualifications – Legal Clerk II Experience: Substantially equivalent to one and one‑half (1.5) years of progressively responsible legal clerical work experience involving preparing, typing, processing and filing legal documents, demonstrating prerequisite knowledge and abilities. Qualifications – Legal Clerk Specialized Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible legal clerical work experience, including preparing, typing, processing and filing legal documents. Knowledge: Legal terminology; court functions; format and content of legal documents; various types of court actions and procedures; legal and office practices and procedures; grammar, punctuation, and sentence construction; legal documents preparation, processing and filing procedures; procedures for processing and filing legal and court documents with courts, boards and commissions. Ability: Prepare, process and file a variety of legal and court documents in proper format; carry out legal office clerical routines; communicate effectively and maintain harmonious working relationships; type at a rate of 40 net words per minute using computer or other software. Skilled Typing Applicants must be able to type accurately using a computer or word‑processing software at a rate of 40 net words per minute.
