Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Evenings Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of ER experience License: Active nursing license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NIHSS; TNCC preferred Must-Have: - Minimum two years of ER experience with trauma Level I and II - Epic EMR proficiency required (used within the last 5 years) - No more than 5 days of requested time off Description: Start dates are not flexible. A minimum of two years of ER experience is required. Experience must include trauma Level I and II accumulated in the past two years. Clinicians with Level III or lower experience cannot be considered. There is a 100-mile radius rule in effect. No 48-hour guarantees are available. No blocked scheduling requests will be accepted. Ratios are 1:5 for medical and 1:6 for fast track. The emergency room operates as a Level 3 trauma unit and receives STEMI and stroke cases. Patients requiring stroke intervention will be transported to a higher-level facility. The emergency room has 52 beds and 4 trauma bays. On average, 200 patients are treated in the emergency room daily. Floating requirements involve a shared schedule with another location, and typically scheduled in advance. The registered nurse must be proficient in reading telemetry and will have access to a monitor technician. There are 6 fast track beds available in the unit. A quick look triage area with two sections uses the ESI system. There is no separate holding area; ER holds are intermixed within the emergency room. Separate psych or seclusion rooms are not available. Security personnel are present in-house 24/7 and office security is located near the ED lobby. Common diagnoses and types of patients encompass various emergency needs. Common drips include ICU medications for holding patients, with ICU assistance available when needed. Physicians and mid-level providers staff varied shifts throughout the day. There is no designated charge nurse on each shift, but a house supervisor can assist when necessary. ED techs with a minimum of two years experience perform EKGs, vital signs, blood draws, and splints. Patients requiring transport can be accompanied by registered nurses if conditions are critical. Dedicated CT and X-ray services are available in the emergency room, with a transport team on standby. ED techs or registered nurses can perform lab draws, as phlebotomy is not available. Shift start times vary, with modified self-scheduling practices in place. The registered nurse is required to work 4 weekend shifts per 4-week block. Typically, 2 of the 5 holiday shifts are required. Scrub colors for the unit are navy blue. New staff will undergo one day of clinical orientation followed by hands-on floor experience. Cancellation policy allows for the client to cancel hours equivalent to the guaranteed weekly hours for the assignment. The charting system used is Epic. A BSN is not required for this position.
