Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Day, Evening Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience License: Active RN license required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS Must-Have: Prior PACU experience; level 1 trauma PACU experience preferred Description: The position involves working in a Post Anesthesia Care Unit. The unit has 20 pre-op bays and 24 PACU/Phase II bays. Staff rotates throughout Pre-op, PACU, Phase II, and boarders. The nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:3 in Pre-op, 1:2 in PACU, and 1:3 in Phase II. Experience with adult and pediatric cases is required. Common surgeries include general surgery, plastics, dental, ENT, urology, neurosurgery, surgical oncology, ophthalmology, orthopedic, and bariatric procedures. The unit requires reading of strips and experience with ICU patients recovering in PACU if necessary. There are nurse aids on the unit, typically including five PCAs in pre-op and additional PCAs in PACU and Phase II. Shifts are primarily M-F with potential rotation to weekends and nights. Pre-op shifts start early in the morning, while PACU shifts have various start times throughout the morning. There are call requirements that vary based on the schedule. Employees may select their own call shifts based on availability. May be required to float to other departments within the hospital. The unit has specific dress codes involving hospital scrubs. Unit-specific orientation includes three days across Pre-op, PACU, and Phase II.
