Job Description

We are searching for a full-time Forensic Engineer, PE (Civil, Structural) based in the Denver, Colorado metropolitan area. The candidate will also service STEPHENS's clients in other states, particularly in the surrounding states. This position requires 50%+ travel, particularly to surrounding states either by car or airplane.

Job Responsibilities

\n

\n
• Prior forensic engineering experience is not required as STEPHENS provides on-the-job training.
\n
• Perform forensic (investigative) evaluations residential, commercial, and industrial buildings for including (but may not be limited to) storm related damage to roofing and exterior claddings, moisture intrusion, impact damage (tree, vehicle, etc.), foundation settlement, construction defects, etc.
\n
• Electrical/mechanical engineers will also perform forensic evaluations on electrical/mechanical systems.
\n
• Prepare precise and unbiased written reports of findings for your site investigations based on field inspections and research consistent with the company’s standards and guidelines.
\n
• Prior report writing skills are a plus.
\n
• Consistently and effectively communicate with clients, the engineering team, and the home office on daily work.
\n
• Must be customer service and team oriented, with professional and timely communication with company clients for assigned projects.
\n
• Must be flexible with scheduling, daily work, and quality control.
\n
• Consistently meet all of the required company expectations and deadlines, particularly during times of heavy workload.
\n
• Provide depositions and expert testimony, if necessary, on assigned work.
\n
• Additional duties assignment by management.
\n
• Must be willing to work additional hours during period of peak business demand as deemed necessary.
\n
• Must be proactive, a self-starter, and be able to work with minimal supervision.
\n
• Must be able to accurately type 30 wpm and be knowledgeable with Microsoft Office, particularly MS Word.
\n
• Proficient writing skills using proper English spelling and grammar.
\n
• Must be able to park a company vehicle at your residence.
\n
• Be willing to learn and adapt to inevitable company policy and procedural changes.
\n

Education and Licensing Requirements

\n

\n
• A minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
\n
• Possess and maintain an active professional engineer (PE) license in the state of employment or the ability to become licensed within two months.
\n
• An NCEES Record is preferred.
\n
• Have a valid driver’s license without travel time restrictions and the ability to be insured by the company to use the company vehicles.
\n

Travel Requirements

\n

\n
• This is a home-based position.
\n
• Residence in the Denver, Colorado metropolitan area is required. Daily reporting to an office will not be required.
\n
• Willing to work from home or a remote location, particularly when travelling.
\n
• Travel to and from the site inspections provided by the home office. Some inspections may be located in the surrounding states.
\n
• Extended travel times may be required for this position depending on the location of the investigation.
\n
• Be willing to drive long distances, if necessary, which occasionally may require longer than 8-hour days.
\n
• Overnight travel may be required depending on the location and number of sites to investigate in an area.
\n
• Up to 50% of the time may be required for regular travel in your assigned region.
\n

Physical Requirements – Must be willing and able perform the physical tasks associated with performing forensic investigations which may include (but not be limited to):

\n

\n
• Standing, walking, sitting, or driving for extended periods of time.
\n
• Climbing stairs, ladders, and scaffolding.
\n
• Walking on flat, uneven, and pitched roof slopes, some which may be over 2-stories.
\n
• Crawling through confined spaces (attics, crawlspaces, etc.).
\n
• Working outside in the heat or cold.
\n
• The ability to lift and move objects weighing 50 to 100 lbs.
\n

Overtime Requirements – The position provides a competitive salary with overtime and a yearly bonus. The employee must comply with working overtime during periods of heavy workload.
