Job Summary Location: Methodist Physicians Clinic - Hawthorne Court Address: 17675 Welch Plaza, Omaha, NE Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, hours between 8am – 5pm Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) assists physicians by reviewing records, preparing patients/exam rooms, and handling prescription renewals/inquiries. Responsibilities Document all lab, procedures, and appointments on tracking forms. Complete tracking forms and follow up on missed appointments and procedures. Assist Health Coaches by working patient lists and scheduling appointments as directed. Provide patient and family education to ensure adequate knowledge/awareness and recommend appropriate community resources as needed. Educate/instruct patients according to provider direction (approximately 98% of the time). Perform telephone triage to determine patient needs, recording and reporting patient condition to provider and advising patient based on provider instructions. Receive and return patient calls within 90 minutes based on medical priority (approximately 95% of the time). Accurately record and report patient’s condition according to department policy (approximately 98% of the time). Maintain work areas to ensure healthy environmental conditions by cleaning and organizing equipment and rooms (approximately 99% of the time). Handle prescription renewals/inquiries and refill requests according to department/provider protocols. Provide appropriate care specific to the age of the patient to ensure understanding and comfort level of treatment as outlined in the “Age Specific Criteria”. Prepare exam rooms and equipment for patient treatment, setting up instruments/equipment and stocking supplies. Prepare patient for provider exam by reviewing medical records, weighing patient, checking vital signs, performing medication reconciliation, and obtaining information relevant to patient care. Assist providers by retrieving tests and medical records and obtaining lab work as directed. Dispense medications at the direction of a provider and instruct patients and family members on correct medication usage. Assist and/or perform phlebotomy with proper labeling and handling of specimens, accurately completing requisitions, and collecting specimens according to standard procedures. Ensure accuracy of order entry and complete appropriate documentation with minimal error (at least 98% of the time). Answer and return phone calls, messages, and provide test results according to protocol (approximately 98% of the time). Accurately complete pharmacy refill requests (100% of the time). Job Requirements Education Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Experience Previous Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or medical experience preferred. Phlebotomy experience required (Floor only). License/Certifications Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire; required within 3 months of hire. Current valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) License, valid compact multistate license or temporary permit while awaiting licensure required. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and medicine, including recognizing and diagnosing diseases and deformities. Effective time management and task prioritization. Proficient typing and computer usage for patient information capture. Ability to provide caring patient care services and to listen critically to patients and providers. Problem‑solving abilities, flexibility, and the capacity to navigate various computer programs. Strong verbal communication skills for interaction with providers, staff, and patients. Follow written and verbal instructions and directions. Physical Requirements Medium work: exerts up to 50 pounds of force. Occasionally: climbing, crawling, kneeling, and sitting. Frequently: balancing, carrying, crouching, distinguishing colors, keyboarding/typing, lifting, pulling/pushing, repetitive motions, stooping/bending, and twisting. Constantly: grasping, hearing, reaching, seeing/visual, speaking/talking, standing (floor only), walking (floor only), and sitting (phone only). Job Hazards Not related: electrical shock/static, radiation non‑ionizing. Rare: radiation alpha, beta, and gamma. Occasionally: equipment/machinery/tools, explosives (pressurized gas), physical hazards (noise, temperature, lighting, wet floors, outdoor, sharps). Frequent: biological agents (air‑borne and blood‑borne viruses), chemical agents (toxic, corrosive, flammable, latex), mechanical moving parts/vibrations.
