Job Description:\n\nJob Summary\n\nThe Estimator I supports the estimating function by performing quantity takeoffs and helping build cost estimates for electrical construction projects. This role is focused on learning how electrical work is installed, how labor is built, and how scopes are translated into pricing.\n\n \n\nThis position primarily supports small & medium projects, while contributing to portions of larger commercial and data center bids. The Estimator I works closely with the chief and senior estimators to understand real-world installation methods and develop accurate takeoffs and pricing.\n\n \n\nEssential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities\n\nTasks may include, but are not limited to the following:\n\n· Creating the project folder\n\n· Downloading project documents\n\n· Perform detailed quantity takeoffs from drawings for systems as assigned\n\n· Perform specification and project manual review\n\n· Perform quantity takes for systems as assigned\n\n· Build material lists in the bill of material format\n\n· Provide vendors with the bills of material to obtain material pricing and availability\n\n· Solicit subcontractor quotes for basic scopes (e.g., trenching, core drilling, low-voltage support)\n\n· Assist in developing labor estimates using standard labor units\n\n· Assist in preparing proposals and scope summaries\n\n· Support estimating team during bid day by updating pricing and organizing bid documents\n\n· Maintain cost databases, vendor contacts, and historical pricing information\n\n· Participate in jobsite visits to observe installation methods and verify quantities\n\n· Participate in project reviews\n\n· Look for ways to improve yourself and the processes used\n\n· Maintain department confidentiality\n\n· Any additional responsibilities as assigned\n\n \n\n \n\nKnowledge, Skills and Abilities \n\nRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:\n\n· Foundational knowledge of electrical construction and service operations, including basic understanding of power distribution, lighting systems, and low-voltage/data infrastructure commonly used in commercial and mission critical environments\n\n· Developing ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, specifications, panel schedules, and basic one-line diagrams, with the ability to identify major components and quantities\n\n· Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform accurate quantity takeoffs for conduit, wire, devices, fixtures, and equipment based on drawings and specifications\n\n· Basic understanding of electrical materials, installation methods, and construction sequencing, including how work is installed in the field and how that impacts labor and cost\n\n· Ability to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities in a deadline-driven environment, including balancing structured bid work with urgent service-related pricing requests\n\n· Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel for material tracking, quantity summaries, and simple cost calculations, along with working knowledge of estimating and takeoff tools such as Bluebeam and Accubid\n\n· Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively with estimators, project managers, service coordinators, field technicians, vendors, and subcontractors\n\n· Ability to ask questions, seek clarification, and translate field input (photos, service tickets, and verbal scope descriptions) into usable estimating information\n\n· Willingness and ability to learn field operations, including exposure to service work (troubleshooting, T&M jobs) and commercial installations, to better understand real-world constructability\n\n· Basic understanding of jobsite safety expectations and ability to follow safety requirements when visiting active construction sites in alignment with Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards\n\n· Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records, cost data, vendor information, and estimating documentation\n\nSupervisory Responsibilities\n\n· No direct supervisory responsibilities\n\n· Works under direction of estimator II, senior estimators and chief estimator\n\n \n\n \n\nWork Environment/Physical Demands/Position Type and Expected Work Time\n\nWork Environment:\n\n· Works under direct supervision in a structured team environment with defined tasks and guidance\n\n· Limited client interaction; primarily internal coordination and vendor communication\n\n· Jobsite exposure focused on learning installation methods and understanding field conditions\n\nPhysical Requirements:\n\nThis role requires the physical and environmental demands outlined below, with or without reasonable accommodation. start and end times may vary based on bid deadlines, service demand, and operational requirements\n\n· Position requires flexibility to work extended hours, early mornings, evenings, or occasional weekends to support:\n\n· Critical bid submissions\n\n· High-priority service requests\n\n· Major project pursuits (including data center and fast-track work)\n\n· Schedule is driven by a combination of planned bid cycles and unplanned service-related requests, requiring the ability to adjust priorities and respond quickly to changing demands\n\n· Occasional travel and off-site work required for pre-bid walkthroughs, jobsite visits, client meetings, and coordination with field operations; schedule may adjust to align with jobsite access times or client requirements\n\nOvertime Expectations:\n\n· This position is classified as exempt and is not eligible for overtime pay in accordance with applicable federal and state laws\n\n· The role is expected to fulfill the responsibilities of the position regardless of hours required, with workload driven by project portfolio demands, client commitments, and business objectives\n\n· Additional hours, including early mornings, extended workdays, evenings, or weekends, may be necessary to support critical project milestones, executive-level client needs, and schedule-sensitive activities\n\n· Availability outside of standard business hours is expected to address project issues, support decision-making, and respond to time-sensitive matters impacting project or business performance\n\n· Work schedules are managed with a high degree of independence and accountability, in coordination with senior leadership, to ensure successful delivery of projects and operational objectives\n\n \n\nRequired Education and Experience\n\nEducation:\n\n· Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related construction or technical field preferred\n\n· OR equivalent combination of education, military training, and hands-on electrical construction, service, or field experience accepted\n\n· Foundational training in blueprint reading, electrical systems, estimating principles, or construction methods strongly preferred\n\n· Military experience, including veterans with electrical, engineering, construction, logistics, or technical occupational backgrounds, is highly valued\n\n· Relevant trade school, apprenticeship, or industry training may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements\n\nCertifications/Licenses:\n\n· Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required for jobsite visits and field exposure\n\n· Basic awareness of jobsite safety practices and ability to comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements\n\n· No electrical license required at this level;
