The Campus Minister – Retreats & Student Leadership accompanies young men during an important period of their lives and helps bring the Catholic and Franciscan mission of St. Francis to life throughout the school community. In this role, you will: Lead signature retreat programs — Day with Francis, Soar, and Emmaus — that support students’ faith journeys from freshman through senior year. Moderate the LIFE Team, our student campus-ministry leadership program, and mentor students as they develop into faith-filled leaders. Create meaningful opportunities for students to experience prayer, reflection, brotherhood, service, and Catholic faith. Support mission-driven student organizations and service initiatives. Teach up to two Religious Studies courses within a department that values collaboration, instructional excellence, and genuine care for students. JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Franciscan Mission and Ministry, the Campus Minister – Retreats & Student Leadership leads student retreats, directs and moderates the LIFE Team, and supports school-wide prayer, service, and faith-formation initiatives that bring the Capuchin Franciscan charism to life on campus. This is a highly relational position for someone who enjoys working directly with high school students and helping young people connect faith with their everyday lives. The role also includes teaching up to two Religious Studies courses and collaborating closely with the Religion Department to support curriculum consistency and instructional excellence.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Plan, coordinate, and facilitate student retreats, including Day with Francis, Soar, Emmaus, and related faith-formation programs. Direct and moderate the LIFE Team and mentor students in faith-based leadership and service. Build meaningful and appropriate relationships with students and support their spiritual, personal, and leadership development. Support liturgies, prayer services, sacramental experiences, and other campus ministry programs. Organize and support school-wide service projects and outreach initiatives, including the Can Drive and Toy Drive. Support mission-centered student organizations and initiatives. Create opportunities for students to take meaningful leadership roles in retreats, prayer, service, and campus ministry. Teach up to two Religious Studies courses aligned with department curriculum and Catholic teaching. Create an engaging, positive, and respectful classroom environment. Collaborate with the Religion Department, Franciscan Mission and Ministry Office, faculty, staff, administration, students, families, clergy, and community partners. Participate in school events such as Open House, Back-to-School Night, parent-teacher conferences, and other community activities. Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and comply with school policies, mandated reporter obligations, and applicable student-safety requirements. Requirements WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR We are looking for someone who brings faith, energy, creativity, maturity, organization, and a genuine desire to work with young people. A strong candidate will: Demonstrate a commitment to the Catholic faith and a willingness to embrace and model the Capuchin Franciscan charism. Connect naturally and appropriately with high-school-age students and understand the importance of relationships in adolescent faith formation. Demonstrate the ability to lead, mentor, motivate, and develop student leaders. Be comfortable facilitating prayer, reflection, retreats, and conversations about faith. Possess strong organizational skills and the ability to coordinate events, programs, and multiple priorities. Communicate effectively and pastorally with students, families, faculty, staff, clergy, and community partners. Exercise sound judgment and maintain appropriate professional boundaries. Demonstrate a strong commitment to student safety and well-being. Work effectively both independently and collaboratively. Be willing and able to teach up to two Religious Studies courses.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Demonstrated experience working with adolescents in ministry, education, retreats, faith formation, service, student leadership, or a related setting. Working knowledge of Catholic teaching and a demonstrated commitment to supporting Catholic faith formation and the mission of St. Francis High School. Ability to lead, mentor, engage, and build trust with high-school-age students. Strong communication, leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and adapt effectively when circumstances change. Ability to meet applicable background screening, training, and student-safety requirements. Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral Ministry, Education, or a related field. Two or more years of relevant experience in campus ministry, youth ministry, parish ministry, Catholic education, retreat ministry, religious education, missionary or service programs, or a related setting. Experience planning, coordinating, or facilitating student retreats. Experience mentoring student leaders or youth ministry teams. Experience teaching Religion or Theology at the middle school or high school level. Master’s degree in Theology, Divinity, Pastoral Ministry, Religious Education, or a related field. California Teaching Credential. Catechetical Certification and/or Certificate Program in Youth Ministry Studies. Candidates who do not currently hold applicable ministry certifications may complete required certification following hire.
