Database Administrator 2

Position Overview We are seeking a Database Administrator 2 for a multi-year contract with the Texas Department of Health and Human Services (HHSC). This is a hybrid position based in Austin, TX, requiring onsite attendance on Mondays and Tuesdays. Important Notes Location: Candidates must be local to Austin, TX. Location will be verified at the time of assessment. Interview: In-person interview required. Requirements: 3 professional references needed. No visa restrictions. Schedule: Hybrid (3 days remote, 2 days onsite - Mon/Tue). Start Date: 07/01/2026. Responsibilities Support installation of database software and migrations, ensuring data reliability and functionality. Analyze, design, modify, and maintain database structures. Design and implement procedures for database recovery from hardware and software failures. Establish and implement database security controls and user access levels. Evaluate and recommend database software packages. Prepare database documentation, procedures, and data dictionary definitions. Perform logical and physical data modeling, including relational database model design. Monitor database performance and implement efficiency improvements. Assist in modifying existing databases and management systems. Develop standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures to ensure database integrity. Ensure user interfaces are compliant with EIR Accessibility standards. Required Qualifications 4-7 years of experience in the field or a related area. Strong knowledge of database management systems, data warehouse management, and decision support tools. Extensive experience in the development, implementation, and maintenance of data warehouses and data marts. Experience in business objects and building data dictionaries. Ability to use database access tools for application delivery. Strong familiarity with analysis, planning, and management reporting functions. Well-developed oral and written communication skills. Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills. High level of analytical ability for complex problem-solving. Understanding of benchmarking processes and techniques. Data warehousing data population and modeling techniques (Star Schemas, Snowflake Schemas, highly normalized models). Experience with GUI-based ETL tools (e.g., Informatica, IBM WebSphere DataStage). Implementation experience with enterprise-class databases (e.g., Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server). Implementation experience with analytical and reporting tools (e.g., Business Objects, Cognos, Hyperion, MicroStrategy). Experience with the full data warehouse implementation process (requirements, modeling, design, sourcing, transformation, loading, SQL). Preferred Qualifications Oracle Database experience.
