About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Med/Surg Tele Duration: 17 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Required Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: 1 year of recent experience in Med/Surg. Comfortable with a nurse to patient ratio of 1:5 or 1:4, which may include total care patients. Description: The unit has 24 beds and provides a mixed medical-surgical and telemetry setting. Common diagnoses include UTI, pleural effusions, altered mental status, hepatic encephalopathy, dehydration, sepsis, pneumonia, COPD, and cellulitis. Registered Nurses will titrate Heparin only, following established protocols. The unit has telemetry capability, and nurses are not required to interpret strips. The cardiac monitoring system in use is from Philips. Charge nurses do not take patient assignments and there is a break nurse available if patient numbers exceed eight. There are nurse aides available to assist on the unit. Patients may require CPAP or stable BiPAP, but the unit does not support high-flow oxygen or have tracheostomy or ventilator capabilities. Shifts are scheduled as 12-hour shifts from 7 AM to 7 PM, with no self-scheduling allowed. Weekend requirements include every other weekend, and holiday shifts will rotate with permanent staff. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating to other Med/Surg Tele units may be required. The dress code includes navy blue scrubs only, and all tattoos must be covered.
