Job Description Job Description Assistant Controller (Multifamily) – Los Angele, CA
Key Responsibilities
• Own the monthly, quarterly and annual close for the multifamily portfolio.
• Review property-level income statements and balance sheets.
• Ensure general ledger activity is properly recorded.
• Review and approve account reconciliations.
• Support consolidated portfolio reporting.
• Oversee property accounting across accounts payable and vendor payments, accounts receivable and resident balances, cash management and bank reconciliations, security deposits, accruals, capital expenditures, fixed assets, intercompany activity, and property acquisitions and dispositions.
• Maintain strong financial controls.
• Manage, coach and develop the multifamily accounting team.
• Evaluate existing accounting processes to improve efficiency and standardized workflows.
• Serve as a key accounting partner to Multifamily Operations and Asset Management.
• Research material budget-to-actual variances and support budgeting, forecasting and reforecasting.
• Comp: $130-150K
Required
• Seven or more years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful experience in multifamily real estate.
• Prior experience managing or directly supervising an accounting team.
• Strong working knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, general ledger accounting and internal controls.
• Demonstrated experience managing a disciplined month-end close across multiple entities or properties.
• Experience with property accounting for acquisitions and dispositions.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
Preferred
• CPA license.
• Experience with Yardi.
• Experience within an owner/operator or vertically integrated real estate organization. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
