Payroll Analyst II

Opportunity OverviewTeam Overview:This position is responsible for accurate and timely reporting of taxes on the paycheck for all partners and associates of the firm, as well as reporting of all payroll tax items (i.e. W-2, W-4, T-4, TD1) and remittances to 3rd parties including garnishments and taxes. We are looking for a candidate that can exhibit in-depth conceptual and practical knowledge in multistate payroll tax and at least basic knowledge of Canadian taxes. This requires investigating and solving complex tax issues while working independently with minimal guidance and exercising judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information. Having knowledge of best practices and how payroll compliance (tax) integrates with other business areas is imperative. There are potential opportunities to lead projects as well as having accountability for on-going activities and objectives. This position acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience.What You Will Do:This position will be responsible for the following:Payroll Calculations & Reporting – Ensure accurate system calculations and timely reporting of US and Canadian payroll taxes, responding to questions and special requests from associates and regulatory agencies, researching payroll laws and regulations, and creating projections, general ledger reconciliations, and special reports for leadership.Systems & Controls – Develop and execute internal controls required for accurate payroll tax reporting and compliance. Balance operational and system priorities while also removing obstacles for team members to meet critical payroll deadlines and ensure financial integrity of payroll programs. This includes reviewing automated audit controls and payroll tax journal entries.Continuous Improvement – Recommend, document, and support implementation of process improvements for payroll tax procedures through detailed research and analysis. Support the identification, planning, and/or execution of complex projects while adhering to internal/external deadlines.Collaboration – Understand the broad span of influence which comes with handling confidential compensation information for every associate in the US and Canada, and partnering with our department leaders and associates to ensure strategic initiatives tied to payroll are implemented successfully.Position RequirementsEducation & Certifications:Bachelor's degree is required with an emphasis in Accountancy, Finance, or related field strongly preferredOne or more certifications preferred: Certified Payroll Professional (CPP), Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC), CAN Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP), or Certified Public Accountant (CPA)Experience:3 to 5+ years of relevant work experience in accounting, finance, or related field with public accounting experience preferredMicrosoft Office Suite with emphasis on intermediate to advanced Excel experience navigating and controlling large datasetsExperience working within payroll systems and processes including PeopleSoft, ADP, and time & labor system experience is a plusCandidates that live within a commutable distance from our Tempe, AZ and St. Louis, MO home office locations are expected to work in the office four days per week.Company DescriptionJoin a financial services firm where your contributions are valued.
