About the Position: Red River Army Depot (RRAD) is located in northeast Texas, 19 miles west of Texarkana and approximately 170 miles northeast of Dallas. RRAD is near the corners of 4 states - Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. The depot's enormous maintenance mission includes the repair, rebuild, overhaul and conversion of tactical wheeled vehicles. Duties

Help

  • Identify long and short-term objectives for environmental project plans.
  • Manage hazardous material and hazardous waste programs.
  • Coordinate with high level staff regarding environmental projects.
  • Maintain permits to ensure compliance.
  • Provide guidance on developing procedures to correct violations.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance for access to Depot Production Computer System.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • This is a Term position scheduled to last 1 year and 1 day. A term position may be extended to a maximum of eight years depending upon the needs of management.
  • Term employment is subject to a one year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.
  • Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a temporary or Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain appropriate training and certification to meet State and Federal laws for Hazardous spill response team within 90 days of entering position.
  • This position requires a successfully completion of the Civilian Education System Course and the Supervisory Development Course within 12 months in the position.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Managing environmental hazardous material and hazardous waste programs; 2) Mentoring personnel on work and administrative matters; 3) Providing technical guidance on environmental policy and guidance; and 4) Implementing long range projects for the environmental hazardous material and hazardous waste programs.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
  • Environmental Compliance and Preventive Action
  • Environmental Document Preparation
  • Environmental Project and Program Management
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.
