Correction Officer (O.C. #60066-420) Location: County Building I, Batavia, NY Salary: $26.13 per hour (2026) Vacancy: Four positions currently open; may fill future vacancies. Recruitment: Continuous recruitment; last filing date August 5, 2026. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent recognized by the New York State Department of Education. Legal resident of Genesee, Erie, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Orleans or Wyoming County at the time of examination and for at least two months prior. Eligible for certification must meet minimum age and educational requirements on the examination date. Special Requirements Valid New York State driver’s license at the time of appointment and throughout employment. Successful completion of background investigation, medical examination, and psychological test prior to appointment. Minimum 18 years of age at time of appointment. Typical Work Activities Process receiving and discharge of detainees. Guard prisoners in the County Jail. Process ID cards and fingerprint cards. Inspect quarters for contraband. Maintain order and security during assigned shift. Distribute mail, magazines, food trays, personal articles, etc. Assist in the transport of detainees. Make oral and written reports. Exam Details The exam is a training and experience questionnaire only; no written multiple‑choice test. Candidates who meet minimum qualifications will receive a rating based on their training and experience relative to the duties of the position. Approved candidates will be notified of a website for the Training and Experience Questionnaire available beginning September1,2026. Submission deadline for this questionnaire is midnight September30,2026. Improper or incomplete information on the application may result in disapproval.
