POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for a motivated CNC Maintenance Technician to support the upkeep and reliability of our CNC machine shop. This role is ideal for someone with foundational mechanical skills and a passion for learning CNC equipment maintenance. You will work alongside experienced machinists and engineers, gaining hands-on experience while helping keep our prototyping equipment running smoothly.

This is a hands-on technical role focused on CNC machine health. You will have the opportunity to grow into full ownership of preventive maintenance programs and machine diagnostics.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Preventive Maintenance

• Assist in executing preventive maintenance schedules for CNC equipment, including machining centers, mills, and EDM machines
• Perform routine checks on fluid levels, filters, coolant systems, and lubrication
• Track and manage consumables (coolant, filters, lubricants, way oil) and maintain inventory levels
• Opportunity to gain exposure to machine calibration techniques in a collaborative shop environment

Troubleshooting & Repair Support

• Assist in diagnosing mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on CNC equipment
• Learn to interpret CNC control alarms and basic parameter settings
• Support coordination with OEM service representatives for repairs and parts procurement
• Perform basic inspections such as spindle runout checks and alignment verification under supervision

Proactive Machine Health

• Help maintain detailed maintenance logs and machine history records
• Monitor basic machine health indicators (spindle hours, coolant condition, unusual sounds or vibration)
• Support future machine installations, rigging, leveling, and commissioning of new equipment

Collaboration

• Work closely with CNC operators to understand machine performance issues and prioritize maintenance activities
• Coordinate with general facility maintenance to avoid overlap and ensure clear role boundaries
• Follow shop safety compliance, including machine guarding, lockout/tagout procedures, and coolant management

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• 1+ year of hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance, industrial equipment repair, or a related technical field (CNC-specific experience is a plus but not required)
• Solid mechanical aptitude — comfortable working with hand tools, power tools, and basic diagnostic instruments
• Ability to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings or schematics
• Familiarity with shop safety practices including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn
• Good documentation and communication skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (NICE TO HAVE)

• Associate degree, technical certificate, or completion of a trade program in industrial maintenance, mechatronics, mechanical technology, or a related field
• Any prior exposure to CNC machines, even in an operator role
• Experience with coolant systems, filtration, or chip management
• Familiarity with calibration tools (dial indicators, touch probes, etc.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
• Comfortable working around CNC equipment, coolants, and lubricants
• Ability to work in a shop environment with typical noise levels

• Standard business hours with occasional flexibility for scheduled maintenance windows or urgent machine-down situations
