Civil Transportation Engineer

McMahon has an immediate opening for a full-time Civil Transportation Engineer in their Neenah, Wisconsin office. Our Transportation group is looking for a confident and accountable transportation engineer who has the skill set to oversee multiple projects, the diligence to represent our firm and our clients, and the professional expertise to collaborate with construction contractors.

The position is comprised of two primary roles. The first role is transportation related design – both municipal and DOT. This in this role you will assist project managers in design and drafting of urban and rural transportation projects. The second role is construction administration for WisDOT construction projects.

As a transportation engineer, you’ll play a vital role in overseeing the success of projects. You’ll be expected to work independently, identify problems, and exercise appropriate judgement to confirm projects are completed accurately, on time, and on budget. Leadership and strong communication skills will help you to be a part of strong teams that understand the value and impact of the work.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Perform construction observation and oversight of transportation construction projects.
• Be responsible for completing projects on time and within budget.
• Perform construction engineering duties that include field layout of projects, quantity measurement and verification, record keeping, contractor pay estimate and contract modification preparation, construction progress meetings, materials acceptance and testing, WisDOT finals, QA/QC process, and general construction oversight.
• Interpret construction drawings and specifications and take appropriate action to ensure the project is constructed in conformance with the requirements of the specifications.
• Maintain client relations while in the field.
• Prepare reports, plans, and specifications, research design standards and code requirements, and conduct field investigation of design problems.
• Assist with design engineering duties under the supervision of the Project Manager.

Required Qualifications:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be a friendly, approachable team player.
• BS in Civil Engineering
• Ability to walk over uneven terrain and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
• Willingness to travel out of town for periods of time for various construction projects (home at night).

Skills & Experiences:

• Experience on WisDOT project development process, construction observation and materials testing for WisDOT projects.
• A minimum of 0-5 years of construction observation experience on roads and/or bridges.
• Experience with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Proficiency in AASHTOWare Project and Civil3D.
