Indian Springs School District #109 Elementary Special Education Teacher Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree Demonstrates aptitude for successful completion of professional responsibilities Licensure: Appropriate Illinois State Board of Education License (PEL) with LBS1 Pre K through Age 21 Endorsement REPORTS TO: Building Principal PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Instructional Planning & Knowledge of Subject Matter Establishes specific learning objectives Plans for a variety of methods and materials appropriate to lesson objectives Provides for differences of abilities, achievement levels and learning styles as appropriate to subject and matter Program emphasis is on the development of critical academic, communication, social, and life skills through a collaborative team-based approach. Maintains concise written lesson plans in accordance with the established format Plans evaluation of student achievement in relation to stated objectives Utilizes a variety diagnostic and assessment information Adheres to district curriculum guidelines, time limits and objectives Demonstrates a knowledge of subject matter and incorporates this knowledge in lesson development Accepts responsibility for the safety and well-being of the students while children are on the school premises Utilizes the elements of principles of Applied Behavior Analysis, Verbal Behavior, and structured teaching. Daily instruction focuses on communication, socialization, daily living skills, leisure skills, motor development, community-based instruction, health management, vocational training/instruction, behavior management, and assistive technology. Instructional Implementation & Classroom Management Makes students aware of lesson objective(s) Reflects previously stated objectives in classroom presentation and/or activities Uses a variety of methods of instruction such as lecture, discovery, discussion and student practice associated with individual student observation and assistance Uses probing questioning techniques to determine or establish understanding of concepts, relationships and feedback Uses a variety of and sufficient evaluative procedure such as written and oral tests and evaluation of continued use of skills in language activities Creates a positive learning environment and provides for complementary physical arrangement and décor of the classroom to support instructional method Monitors students continually to develop on task behavior Creates an appropriate atmosphere, using contact time efficiently Demonstrates enthusiasm and exhibits high expectations for students Makes learning presentation appropriate to students abilities and capable of holding students' interests Maintains appropriate communication with students Provides opportunities for all students to experience success Demonstrates respect of, is tolerant of, and is fair to all students PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides concise and timely oral and/or written reports to parents Maintains accurate and sufficient records of student progress and behavior Develops standards of behavior, presents standards to students and consistently adheres to expected student behaviors and associated consequences Adheres to and enforces established school discipline policies Accepts appropriate share of responsibility for total school operation Uses a professional manner in dealing with students, co-workers, parents and community Performs such other professional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the principal and/or district administration Other than for serious and/or extended illness, does not exhibit excessive or patterns of absences exceeding yearly sick leave allotment. Reports for work day, staff meetings and other time commitments in a punctual manner Addresses the need for each child and young adult to develop the academic and functional life skills necessary for adult life and to experience social interactions and relationships with peers in educational and community environments. EVALUATION: In accordance with District Policy and Administrative Procedures SALARY: Based on training and experience in accordance with the Agreement between Indian Springs School District #109 and Indian Springs Council, Local 571 of the IFT/AFT.
