Job Summary

The NYSUT Accounting Department located in Latham, New York is comprised of the NYSUT Secretary Treasurer, CFO, Deputy Director of Finance, Staff Accountants and Support Staff Specialists who all work collaboratively in a fast paced environment. The Accounting Support Staff Specialists have the opportunity to work on an array of general accounting support functions . Candidates should be open to taking on new challenges and assignments within the department. This position is for those seeking a professional work environment within a team committed to meeting deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and within accounting standards.

Primary Responsibilities

· General Accounting work including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and bank reconciliations

· Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within the Accounting field

· Requires ability to analyze and interpret accounting and other data and prepare written reports as needed

· Support Staff Accountants with critical tasks during the accounting cycle

· Independently performs specialized projects or program responsibilities requiring a high degree of technical skill

· Respond appropriately to internal, external and vendor inquiries

· Other duties or responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

· Associates degree in Accounting expected, Bachelor's degree preferred

· Minimum of 3 years progressive accounting related experience, not for profit preferred

· Demonstrated proficiency in Office 365 and accounting information systems; Dynamics GP experience preferred; advanced knowledge in Excel

· Budgeting and account analysis experience

· Ability to prioritize multiple demands in a fast paced environment and is well organized

· Proven business analytical skills

· Possess outstanding communication and interpersonal skills

· High degree of confidentiality required

· Knowledge of the American Labor movement and its objectives is preferred
