Sonographer (Per Diem, MFM Office)

Pediatrix & Obstetrix offers an exciting opportunity for a Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonographer to join our team at one of our MFM clinics. At Pediatrix, we are passionate about giving high‑risk expectant mothers and their babies the care they deserve. The diagnostic medical Sonographer provides ultrasound examinations for patients in the Maternal Fetal Medicine setting. The Sonographer works independently and in collaboration with the healthcare team to deliver comprehensive care to pregnant women, assisting perinatologists with procedures and preparing preliminary reports. Responsibilities Perform detailed fetal anatomical surveys, including twins and triplets, and acquire data for physician interpretation. Assist physicians with procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling. Accurately document exam findings, measurements, images, and procedural details in the ultrasound reporting and archiving systems. Record patient history, indications, and observations in accordance with departmental protocols and regulatory standards. Generate clear, comprehensive preliminary reports for interpreting physician review and final signature. Review completed studies with interpreting physicians to communicate findings, address questions, and support diagnostic accuracy. Ensure documentation is complete, timely, and compliant with organizational policies, accreditation requirements, and patient safety standards. Select and assign appropriate exam types, procedures, and indication (diagnosis) codes for accurate reporting, interpretation, and billing. Escort patients and accompanying family members to and from the examination room courteously and professionally. Prepare patients for ultrasound examinations by verifying identity, reviewing relevant history, and ensuring comfort and privacy. Explain complex procedures and examinations to patients and family. Provide reassurance and clear communication throughout the exam to support patient safety, comfort, and satisfaction. Ensure the appropriate consent and/or declinations are obtained. Maintain proper operation of the ultrasound equipment and take appropriate corrective action for malfunctions. Maintain hospital laundry for examination rooms. Maintain adequate inventory of ultrasound supplies. Follow accredited laboratory protocols for obtaining two‑dimensional images, color flow, Doppler, and m‑mode where applicable. Comply with universal precautions, OSHA standards, and safety and security training. Rotate to other locations as needed to cover Sonographer absences. Perform related and other assigned duties as directed. Education Graduate of an accredited sonography program with a degree in ultrasonography or equivalent, or at least two (2) years in an Allied Health Educational Program and one (1) year of on‑the‑job training. Maintain or be eligible for certification as an American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS). Qualifications ARDMS OB/GYN or Fetal Echo (FE) certification, or eligible to obtain within 12 months of hire. Evidence of continuing education credits to fulfill accreditation requirements. NT experience or certification is preferred. CPR certification is preferred. Experience Minimum six months of experience as an ultrasound technician in OB/GYN and/or MFM setting is preferred. Skills / Abilities Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. Skilled in operating ultrasound equipment. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to recognize ethical, legal, and professional issues inherent in providing care and act in a non‑directive, non‑judgemental manner, respecting individual beliefs.
