Overview Day Shift Part Time Weekend Work Schedule: Saturday and Sunday working a 12-hour shift. At Houston Methodist, the Echo Sonographer I position is an entry level sonographer who performs a variety of routine echocardiograms including, but not limited to, Transthoracic Echocardiogram or TTE, with Color, Spectral Doppler and 2-D imaging, Transesophageal Echocardiogram TEE, Plain Stress Echocardiogram or Dobutamine Stress Echocardiogram, TTE with bubbles, TTE with contrast and advanced TTE such as TTE with 3D imaging, for both inpatient and outpatient studies. This position locates, evaluates and records pertinent anatomical, pathological and functional data while using different systems of ultrasound equipment. The Echo Sonographer I position transmits exams to compatible DICOM storage applications, processes preliminary technical data in designated interpreting system, and communicates any significant findings to the attending reading physician. This position requires availability to be on call. Responsibilities Performs echocardiography studies and transmits exams to appropriate storage systems; communicates significant findings to interpreting physician. Obtains and records pertinent anatomical, pathological and functional data; uses ultrasound equipment and different systems as required. On-call availability as required by the department. Maintains patient care and safety standards during procedures; provides patient education and prepares patients for examinations. Qualifications Education : Graduate of an education program approved by the credentialing body for the required credential(s) indicated below. Experience : Successful completion of a clinical rotation in a cardiovascular echo sonography program or six months of cardiac sonographer experience, including on-the-job training in echocardiograms. Licenses and Certifications – Required : BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA) - American Heart Association Must have one of the following certifications: RDCS, RDCS-AE, RVT, RCS, or RVS (as listed by ARDMS/CCI). FLSA: Non-exempt Skills and Abilities Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills and competency assessments. Basic computer knowledge; operates multiple computer systems including Hospital / Radiology/ Cardiology Information Systems and Office software to maintain patient and exam documents. Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills; provides excellent customer service to patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers. Adapts to multiple ongoing priorities with minimal supervision; organizes workflow and participates in problem solving. English language proficiency sufficient to perform essential functions, particularly regarding patient or employee safety or security. Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members and coworkers with a customer service focus. Essential Functions Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic, team-focused unit; communicates pertinent patient information and data clearly. Performs cardiac echo studies with precise and accurate data transmission for physician review. Provides care for patients during echo studies; educates patients on purpose and techniques; identifies and addresses issues for optimum outcomes. Assists physicians and health care team during studies, including patient preparation and maintaining sterile technique as indicated. Maintains sterile techniques and adheres to infection control and safety standards; ensures equipment QC and safe operation; reports malfunctions as needed. Documents procedures accurately; enters charges when applicable; uses resources efficiently and manages time effectively. On-Call and Travel On-Call: Yes in accordance with department needs. Note that employees may be required to be on-call during emergencies (e.g., disasters, severe weather) regardless of selection below. Travel: May require travel within the Houston Metropolitan area; travel outside the Houston Metropolitan area may not be required.
