Surgical Technician, Eligible for sign-on bonus

Description Full-time, 30-40 hours/week, 7am-3:30pm, Monday-Friday On-call required, may include weekends and holidays. Eligible for a sign-on bonus! Non-certified Surgical Tech, $2,000 Certified Surgical Tech, $5,000 Benefited position after 60-day waiting period.

JOB SUMMARY:

The certified surgical technologist works under the supervision of the Director of Surgery. The surgical technician (ST) is a member of the surgical team, who works with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and certified registered nurse anesthetists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities before, during and after surgery.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care in the surgery department and other areas of perioperative services for all patient populations.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF CERTIFIED SURGICAL TECHNICIAN: Application of knowledge of the basic concepts necessary for the performance of the duties expected of the certified surgical technologist. Development of the ideals and professional attitude that will promote responsibility as an individual health care professional and as a member of the health care team. Coordination of team efforts to offer the most qualified team support to the surgical patient, the surgeon and all members of the surgical team. Awareness of the patient as an individual, with specific physical psychological and spiritual needs. Adherence to a code of professional behavior that will reflect the ethical, legal, and more responsibilities of each individual health care practitioner. Provide a safe, efficient, and supportive environment for the surgical patient. Respect the patients’ inherent right to privacy, dignity and confidentiality. Understand the services provided by the surgeon in relation to the patient’s restoration to health and return to the community. Recognize the importance of teamwork, consideration and cooperation. Function efficiently and in a professional manner in all aspects of surgical care, during both routine and special duties and procedures. Apply knowledge of normal and pathologic anatomy and physiology and of the actions of pharmacological agents in order to individualize patient care. Apply the principles of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner to provide optimum patient care. Prepare and know the specific uses of all equipment and supplies used for surgical procedures. Differentiate sterilization methods required for specific instruments and equipment. Demonstrate knowledge of the step-by-step progress of specific surgical procedures and display dexterity in the use of the required instrumentation. Anticipate the needs of the surgeon in order to expedite the procedure, thus minimizing the patient’s exposure to surgical and anesthetic stress. Develop and improve skills in the organization of work and in assisting the surgeon by leaning to use economy in time, motion and materials. Identify emergency situations and use sound judgement in instituting established procedures to respond to emergencies in a calm and efficient manner. Demonstrate initiative in expanding knowledge of new surgical procedures and subjects relating to the operating room and to the surgical patient. Understand that each practitioner is individually responsible for her or his own actions. Recognize legal and policy limits of individual responsibility. Relate operating room services to the total hospital environment.

SCRUB TECHNICIAN

The scrub person handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedures. Must understand the procedures being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. Must have the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.

DUTIES:

Check supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure Scrubs, gowns and gloves Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for procedure Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed per policy for counts. Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants Helps in draping sterile field Passes instruments, etc., to surgeon during procedure Maintains highest regard for sterile technique during procedure Prepares sterile dressings Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization Assists other members of team with terminal cleaning of roomAssists in preparing room for the next patient Requirements

EDUCATION:

High school graduate or equivalent. Basic Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel)

EXPERIENCE:

Preferred but willing to train the right candidate

CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

Basic Life Support Certification (BLS)

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
