Description

Pace University is seeking a professional Full-Time CDL Bus Driver to provide safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services for our students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors. This role operates university-owned buses across fixed campus routes, specialized disability transports, and university charters or special events. The ideal candidate will blend strong technical driving skills with exceptional customer service, maintaining strict compliance with all university, state, and federal transportation regulations.

Position Duties

• Operate university-owned buses to transport passengers safely along designated routes, schedules, and special charter events.
• Conduct mandatory pre-trip and post-trip safety inspections (checking tires, brakes, wipers, lights, fluids, and emergency equipment).
• Monitor vehicle condition during operation, promptly reporting mechanical malfunctions or needed repairs.
• Responsible for refueling vehicles and maintaining interior/exterior cleanliness.
• Adhere strictly to all state, local, and federal traffic regulations, as well as university safety policies and procedures.
• Accurate and timely preparation of passenger counts, mileage logs, and bus defect reports.
• Complete verbal and written reports regarding accidents, safety hazards, schedule delays, or passenger complaints.
• Maintain a high level of attentiveness and strict adherence to shift schedules and route timetables.
• Provide welcoming, helpful, and accessible customer service to a diverse university population, including passengers requiring disability accommodations.
• Wear the provided Pace University uniform and maintain a professional appearance while on duty.
• Performs other such duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Position Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Minimum of three years of experience safely operating commercial transit buses or similar heavy vehicles.
• Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL Class B or Class C required).
• Mandatory Passenger (P) endorsement.
• Air Brakes (L/Z) endorsement preferred.
• Clean driving record meeting university safety compliance standards.
• Strong operational knowledge of commercial motor vehicles and preventative maintenance practices.
• Thorough understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) safety regulations and occupational hazards.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for reporting and passenger interaction.

Work Hours

Full-time shifts vary according to the Pace University academic calendar needs. Requires regular evening and weekend availability, along with coverage during peak university events and select holiday periods when campus transit remains active
